Why does Chelsea's new kit not have a shirt sponsor? Blues wear plain kit against Luton after Premier League veto

Front-of-shirt sponsorship deals are one of the best ways for Premier League football clubs to make money.

Therefore, Chelsea's current situation is far from ideal, given they currently have no sponsor.

As the Blues line up to face Luton tonight - exclusively live on talkSPORT - fans will notice their plain shirts.

And the lack of a sponsor is likely to prove problematic for the club if it carries on much longer.

Why don't Chelsea have a sponsor?

The Blues' previous deal with mobile telecommunications company Three saw them earn £40million a year.

But Todd Boehly and co decided to scrap it to search for a more lucrative sponsor.

The Blues had hoped to seal a deal with streaming service Paramount+ but saw the Premier League block the proposal.

The top flight thought Chelsea actively wearing one of NBC's competitors would cause problems because the American company are the official Premier League rights holder in the USA.

Chelsea then opened talks with gambling firm Stake, but with those types of deals being banned from 2026, the London giants pulled out after negative fan reaction.

The Blues have since rejected an offer from Bayern Munich's stadium sponsor Allianz.

But with the Premier League season fast approaching, Chelsea are now scrambling around for a sponsor.

As a result, the club have lowered their demands to £25m per year and are willing to include the Women's team in the package.

But they have received an intriguing offer from adult subscription site My.Club, who are willing to pay £40million for this season.

The company's president Mike Ford said: "We here at My.Club want to sponsor Chelsea as they look to improve on last season's disappointment.

"We want to have the My.Club logo emblazoned on the front of Chelsea's jerseys before the club kicks off its 2023 season against Liverpool.

“This contribution would work for both parties. For Blues, it will help to make perfect signings like Kylian [Mbappe].

"For us, it will ensure Blues fans have only two clubs to call 'mine.' It would be great having Mbappe, Mudryk and other Chelsea players sharing their training exclusives and hosting AMAs on My.Club, a platform for all creators."

So, now we wait to see if the Blues go for it.
