Which Tales of Arise Version to Buy to Get the Swimsuits, DLC Costumes
Tales of Arise will be out this September 10 (September 9 in Japan), and if you haven’t pre-ordered your copy yet, you should be wondering which version to get if you wanna grab all the DLC costumes.
Nearly every Japanese game nowadays offers costumes as paid DLC, and it’s a way of raking in additional money for the developers. Personally, while it’s been over a decade now since DLCs became the norm, I’ve never been fond of this method. At the same time, it is indeed a good way to support Japanese developers who really need it, such as Nihon Falcom, who always proposes DLC costumes for the Ys games or the Trails Series games. And of course, swimsuit costumes are a staple.

Which Tales of Arise edition should you preorder to get all the DLC costumes
First off, keep in mind that the Japanese official site for Tales of Arise confirmed that every pack of DLC costumes will be sold separately after the game releases. So if you’re only aiming for specific costumes, you can just get them individually after grabbing your copy.
Next, if you plan to grab a copy now, you should get either the Digital Ultimate Edition for or the physical Collector’s Edition. Note that the physical Collector’s Edition is pretty much sold out everywhere for now, so you should keep an eye on Gamespot and other USA retailers on release day for a restock.
The DLC costumes most notably include collaboration costumes. There’s a God Eater costume for Shionne, an Idolmaster Starlit Season costume for Rinwell, and a Tekken costume for Kisara. And yes, the Idolmaster Starlit Season costume is thankfully available in the Western version of Tales of Arise too, even if Starlit Season is a Japan-exclusive for now. The game only releases in Japan on PS4 and Steam on October 14, 2021.
Last but not least, there is also an official comparison chart of all the versions of Tales of Arise. Be sure to check out which corresponds to your needs.
Tales of Arise is coming to PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. In related news, Bandai Namco also announced Tales of Luminaria on mobile.
