Video of John Cena Calling Dwayne Johnson a “Self-Centered, Egotistical, See-Through Son of a B*tch” Resurfaces Amid WrestleMania 40 Controversy

Dwayne Johnson made headlines again this week when he returned to the WWE ring and confirmed that he would be battling it out in the ring against his cousin and the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Johnson was accused of stealing all the glory again as wrestler Cody Rhodes was touted as the main event in WrestleMania 40.

Rhodes was supposed to spar with Reigns in the biggest Summer event of WWE but had to give up on the glory despite winning the Royal Rumble this year. Fans have criticized the decision and called out The Rock for being a glory hound. An old video of John Cena calling Johnson egotistical has been making the rounds on social media, fueling the controversy.

Dwayne Johnson recently made a fantastical return to the WWE ring and announced his bout with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. The actor and wrestler had recently been appointed as a board member at TKO Group Holdings, the company that manages the WWE and UFC promotions.

Reigns had an ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes, who had recently won the Royal Rumble event. Rhodes wanted to ‘finish his story’ by taking a shot at the Universal Champion title and the feud between him and Reigns had been leading up to a match in WrestleMania 40. However, Rhodes announced at WWE Smackdown that he would not be aiming for the title and ‘everything he got’ at WrestleMania, but someone else would.

Dwayne Johnson decided to make an entrance at that moment and challenge his cousin Roman Reigns at the upcoming event. The match would be Johnson’s first proper match in the ring since 2017. However, fans of WWE were not happy with Johnson’s glory-hounding moment. Many believed that Rhodes deserved his chance to shine at WWE’s biggest event.

Fans were outraged over the shift in the storyline as Rhodes and Roman Reigns were touted to fight each other since last year. They were angry that Cody Rhodes, who had just won the Royal Rumble event, could not even get a top spot at WrestleMania. While Johnson and Reigns have been feuding for a while and their match was due, many opined that this was not the right moment for the climatic fight.

Ever since his return, fans have been criticizing Dwayne Johnson for stealing Cody Rhodes’ thunder and making it all about himself again. However, they were not the only ones who used to think so as WWE superstar and actor John Cena too had echoed the sentiment once. Cena and Johnson had a feud that did not just stop at the ring.

In 2008, John Cena publicly bashed The Rock for not ‘giving back to the wrestling community and just focusing on his Hollywood career. He said in an interview with The Sun (via Bleacher Report),

“[The Rock], at one point, loved wrestling and wanted to do this all of his life. Explain to me why he can’t come back for a 15th-anniversary show or why he can’t make an appearance at Wrestlemania. Simply put it’s because he wants to be an actor…Just don’t f*** me around and tell me that you love this when you are just doing this to do something else. That’s the only thing that gets me really p*ssed off.”

When Dwayne Johnson returned to the WWE as a guest host in 2011, he reportedly cost John Cena a stab at the WWE Championship when he interfered in his match with The Miz. The duo then decided to hash it out in 2012’s WrestleMania 28. The two called each other out multiple times in the year-long buildup to the match.

In one of these screaming matches, John Cena decided to call out Dwayne Johnson for wanting to be the center of attention. In the video that is now circulating the Internet for being topical, Cena said,

“These people love The Rock. I was one of these people until I got to meet Dwayne Johnson. Dwyane Johnson is a self-centered, egotistical, see-through son of a bi*ch that wouldn’t give a rat’s a*s if this company closes tomorrow.”

While the duo have resolved their feud since then and John Cena has mentioned that he could not see Johnson’s perspective back then, fans have brought up the video to prove why Johnson still remained the center of attention after his recent antics at Smackdown.
