“They’re legit,” Skip Bayless STRONGLY agrees with the notion of Bengals being road favorites against the Patrick Mahomes led-Chiefs in the AFC Championship game
The Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes will take on Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in a much-awaited AFC Conference Championship game this weekend. Just last season, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs in the conference championship game and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Rams. So, this season’s rematch against the two of the best quarterbacks in the league has created a lot of buzz around the league.
The 12-and-4 Bengals are coming off an incredible victory against the pre-season Super Bowl favorites the Buffalo Bills. Joe Burrow and his team finished the job in Buffalo on the back of a stupendous performance by their running back Joe Mixon and their defense. The Cincinnati-based franchise entered the game as road underdogs and dominated the Josh Allen-led Bills on all phases of the football game.
On the other hand, the 14-and-3 Chiefs struggled a bit to beat the 9-and-8 Jaguars in their divisional-round matchup but managed to defeat them. Furthermore, their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered an ankle injury during the game but stayed in it to finish the job. His availability in the conference championship game is questionable but the team believes he should be good to go against the defending AFC Champions.
As a result of their performance in their divisional round games and the injury to Patrick Mahomes, the Bengals have opened as the road favorites against the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL analyst Skip Bayless agrees with that notion.
Skip Bayless believes the Bengals should indeed be the favorites against the Chiefs
Speaking on his show UNDISPUTED with Shannon Sharpe, Bayless implied that Joe Burrow is the biggest reason the Bengals are being favored against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.
“I believe Joe Burrow has more to do with this thing,” said Bayless in a recent episode of his show. “Cincinnati just destroyed the pre-season favorite to win it all at Buffalo.”
“Joe Burrow has beaten him all three times and outplayed him all three times and he’s 8 touchdowns to 1 interception against Kansas City and Patrick’s been good.. he’s been very good but he hadn’t been Joe Burrow,” said Bayless about Bengals opening as favorites. “Cincinnati continues to be an underdog wherever it goes, people haven’t bought in completely to Cincinnati until what they did at Buffalo and I think they’re starting to say ‘Timeout, they’re legit’.”
It doesn’t matter whether the Bengals go into the Arrowhead (or “Burrowhead” according to Mike Hilton) as favorites or underdogs, they will fight with everything they got against the best of the best for their right to hoist the Lamar Hunt Trophy this weekend.
