The Sex/Life series is based on the novel: 44 Chapters About 4 Men, which was written by BB Easton.
The novel chronicles a woman’s secret journal, which ultimately has an influence on her marriage. Despite settling down and having a family, Easton, the main protagonist, documents her time and affairs with her past boyfriends in her journal. She loves her husband, who she identified by the pseudonym Ken, but feels he is a cold, distant partner.
To rekindle the love of her marriage, Easton writes about the aggressive escapades she enjoyed with her previous boyfriends in a bid to inflame her husband. Ken begins to demonstrate some of the thoughts recorded in the novel, but Easton is frustrated by the mixed result she perceives such actions had on her marriage.
Plot
According to Netflix, a woman’s daring sexual past collides with her current marriage when the bad-boy ex-boyfriend she cannot stop fantasizing about crashes back into her life. Her fantasy-charged trip down memory lane leads to her struggling to confront her past, and also raising the issue of conflict of interest in her current marriage.
Tired of caring for her two young kids and reminiscing on her past, the woman starts chronicling and began musing about her passionate exploits with her ex-boyfriend. However, her husband finds the journal of his “free-spirited” wife and is confused.
