Peter Ndubuisi Mbah was born on March 17, 1972, to the family of Chief Gilbert Ekete Mbah in Owo, situated in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He attended Army Children’s School in Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, and Owode High School in Owode Egba, Ogun State, for his primary and secondary school education, respectively. He then moved to the United Kingdom where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of East London in 2000. Subsequently, he attended the Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar.
In 2004, he obtained a master’s degree in Maritime and Commercial Law from Lagos State University. He also has an MBA from the IESE Business School at the University of Navarra in Barcelona, Spain, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Mbah holds the status of a Fellow in the Certified Institute of Public Administration and Management (CIPM). Furthermore, he is an active member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and the Nigerian Bar Association
Mbah is a Nigerian individual who has a diverse professional background encompassing maritime law, financial analysis and politics. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd. Originally hailing from Owo in the Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu state, Nigeria.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Political Science by Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, in 2021.
Currently, Mbah serves as the Governor of Enugu State, situated in the South-East region of Nigeria.

Peter Mbah career
Following his graduation, questions have arisen regarding Mbah’s involvement in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and his employment at Udeh and Associates law firm in Lagos. The NYSC has publicly declared that the certificate he possesses is counterfeit.
Mbah served as an exclusive agent for International Oil Corporation, an oil and gas company based in Fresno, California, USA.
He subsequently demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by establishing Peter Mbah Investments Limited in 1992, a company operating in the oil and gas sector. He also founded GILPEL Industries Ltd., an importer of various goods, and operated the company from 1993 to 1997. The company was said to have posted an annual turnover exceeding $300 million.
Furthermore, he established FOCUS International Schools in Lagos State.
As the founder and CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd., his organisation completed the development of Single Point Monitoring (SPM), Conventional Buoy Mooring (CBM) and storage facilities located within the Lekki Free Trade Zone in 2021.
Mbah also has vast experience in public service. He once served as the Commissioner for Finance and Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Government, and these appointments enabled him to acquire valuable firsthand knowledge in general financial management, project finance and other related areas.
The diverse businessman also founded the Peter Mbah Foundation (PMF), a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in rural communities and promoting human capital development. The foundation focuses on implementing initiatives and projects that uplift and empower individuals residing in indigent areas.

- Newswatch Magazine: Mbah was honoured by Newswatch magazine as one of the ten most outstanding Commissioners in Nigeria in 2005.
- Honorary Doctorate Degree: Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu awarded Mbah an honorary doctorate in Political Science.

Mbah’s passion for public service and his commitment prompted him to enter politics. With his broad skill set and understanding of the local landscape, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2003, Mbah assumed the position of Chief of Staff to the Governor. He was subsequently appointed as the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development by Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. During his tenure, he actively participated as a member of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee, the Enugu State Executive Council, and the State Security Council. Notably, he served as the Chairman of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee’s sub-committee on Legal Matters, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Enugu State Insurance Company, Enugu State Finance and Investment Company and the Enugu State Tenders’ Board.
On May 25, 2022, Mbah emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the 2023 Enugu State governorship. The party’s state governorship primary took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, where he secured a total of 790 votes out of the 807 votes cast by the delegates.
Mbah won the keenly contested Enugu governorship election conducted on March 18, 2023. He was officially sworn in as the Governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023.
