Persona Vs Reveal Disappoints Fans, But Might be Teasing New Game
Atlus and Sega just revealed a new crossover project featuring characters from all of the Persona series, a new game titled Persona VS, however, it’s very different from what its name insinuates, sparking mixed reactions.
Persona VS (Versus) fighting card game explained
Banso and Atlus announced on October 12 it plans to launch the “board game” Persona VS (Versus) in late December in Japan. Persona VS will be sold for 2970 Yen (tax included) and pre-orders are open, those who pre-order in the next seven days will get a 10% off discount.
Persona VS lets players pick one of the protagonist characters from Persona 3, 4, or 5. and you need to participate in a “festival” and attain victory with your personas and comrades. It’s described as a “Persona Battle Card Game”.
Persona VS incorporates the battle system of the series, with weaknesses, the 1 More turn system, or switching Personas. Each player builds their deck in advance like any other battle card game, with various cards and their effects inspired by the Persona series. Needless to say, many fans were shocked at this announcement, as we all initially thought of a fighting game. Persona Vs is actually a card game, and its name is hilariously misleading. To the point it feels like Atlus is trolling us. However, not all hope is lost.

Persona VS (Versus) story mode with Elizabeth, Margaret, Justine and Caroline might be teasing an actual fighting game
Persona VS has an actual story. Atlus published a prologue featuring Velvet Room attendants Elizabeth, Margaret, Justine, and Caroline. I translated it below.
“Welcome to the Velvet Stadium”. Looking like an elevator girl, the girl called Elizabeth declared so. Besides her, a mature-looking lady added:
“Right now, the human world is celebrating, so we’ve decided to prepare a fitting stage as well.”
Two more girls were present, dressed similarly as Elizabeth and Margaret. The one with a right eye eyepatch, Caroline, said: “Rejoice! This festival is a test of strength!”.
The girl with a left eyepatch, Justine, started speaking as well:
“…This is different from what we usually do. But we’ll be participating as well. Let’s make it the best festival ever.”
And thus, the festival began”.
This might be overanalyzing thing, but Justine’s words might be hinting that this Velvet Stadium is where a Persona 5 actual fighting game will be taking place. Teasing the announcement of a Persona 5 fighting game. As part of the 25th anniversary of the series.
To be fair, there are still five more announcements coming for the Persona 25th anniversary, with the next one planned for December 2021. An actual Persona 5 fighting game can definitely happen. The final reveal will happen in Autumn 2022, and it’s likely to be Persona 6.
