“Oh baby, you fat”: Gina Carano Shaped Her Own Destiny After Getting Bullied By a Man, Ended Up Training Under Him For the MMA
Gina Carano’s ability to transform challenges into opportunities for success is truly one of a kind. It can also be seen when the actress, who is also a skilled martial artist was bullied by a man at a gym. Instead of being discouraged, she began training with the same individual who had bullied her. And just five months later, she turned professional. During an interview with Conan O’Brien, the star of The Mandalorian revealed how it all really started.
Gina Carano Made Her Bully Her Trainer!
When Gina Carano was with her then-boyfriend, she admitted to gaining some weight. Consequently, when she accompanied her celebrity boyfriend to the gym to be supportive, she was fat-shamed. In an interview with Conan O’Brien’s talk show Conan, she revealed,
“I walked into the gym and this Thai guy, this little Thai man was like ‘oh baby you fat, you need to lose weight.—-and I started training with him actually.”
Although she felt insulted, she did not let it discourage her. Instead, she decided to train with the person who had fat-shamed her. With Master Chan, the person who bullied her in the gym, so-called encouragement, she started Muay Thai training twice a week. Gradually, the frequency increased to three times a week, then daily. Eventually, she admitted it had become her way of life.
Gina Carano’s Journey Till Now
After achieving significant success in the sport, Carano received an invitation to participate in the inaugural sanctioned female MMA match hosted by World Extreme Fighting. Her journey then continued as she entered the arenas of EliteXC and Strikeforce. Carano’s last fight was recorded to be in 2009, culminating with an impressive Muay Thai record of 12-1-1 and an MMA record of 7-1-0.
Carano started on her acting journey in 2005 with the film Ring Girls. Her television appearances included reality series like Fight Girls and American Gladiators. She also garnered fame and acclaim for her performances in Fast & Furious 6 and Haywire, Carano also very recently ventured into the galaxy far, far away, with a role in the Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.
