Obsession Alert: Tory Burch Is Making Zodiac Bags
Glamour: First things first, what’s always in your bag?
Tory Burch: A pair of sunglasses for sun, my BlackBerry for email, my iPhone for everything else, and candy—it’s my weakness!
Glamour: Do you have a trick that keeps your bags organized? We stock different pouches with essentials, then transfer the pouches from bag to bag.
TB: I think the best way to stay organized and clear your daily cache of clutter is to switch bags. Each handbag serves a different purpose and mood. I never get bored, and I never accumulate things I don't need.
Glamour: Why do you think your core handbags are so successful—and what’s going to be different—in a good way—about the Gemini?
TB: The Gemini's different because it has a lot of attitude for an everyday bag. I think it bridges the gap between something special and something extremely functional and utilitarian. I love the unexpected hardware and take on our logo, it feels distinctive yet timeless.
Glamour: Is there a secret meaning woven into the Gemini bags? Do you have other secret symbols designed into your products?
TB: Twos are big for me: I'm a mother and an entrepreneur, I have twin boys, my astrological sign is a Gemini, and I always joke that I'd be equally happy living on a farm or in the center of a busy city. Our lives are full of these dualities, both big and small, so we loved incorporating that symbol into the collection.
Glamour: If you had to choose, which of the six styles is your favorite, and what would you pair it with?
TB: I particularly love how the striped eel skin [above] from the collection plays against this season's graphic prints and bright colors.
Glamour: Anything else you can't live without from your fall '16 collection?
TB: Our Gemini Link Loafer, bomber jackets, and floral-print pieces. The print—inspired by a pantsuit my mom wore in the seventies—feels cool and old-fashioned in a stylish way.
