Northbound lanes of I-85 reopened after death investigation in north Charlotte – WSOC TV
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews were investigating after a man was found dead on Interstate 85 early Friday morning in north Charlotte.
Officials told Channel 9 someone called 911 around 4:40 a.m. saying they spotted a body under the Sugar Creek Road bridge.

Firefighters responded and found the man deceased. Investigators told Channel 9 that he likely jumped from the bridge and was hit by a large vehicle.
Paramedics said the man, whose name has not been released, was hit by multiple vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this point we don't have any witnesses that saw the individual jump from the bridge. So for that reason we are covering all our bases to make sure this individual did jump and wasn't pushed or anything like that," said CMPD Capt. Rob Dance.
Police said the man did live in the area.
"Officers have had several enounters with him in the past several days. At this point, we don't know if he's homeless or not," said Dance.

Police taped off the Sugar Creek bridge and were treating it as a crime scene as officers gathered evidence.
Crews had to close the northbound lanes of I-85 and divert traffic onto the Sugar Creek ramp and traffic was backed up for four miles.

Police reopened Sugar Creek Road and all northbound lanes of I-85 just before 8 a.m.
