‘Na sapa catch am’ – Funny reactions as masquerade requests online transfer

A masquerade has drawn humorous reactions after he was spotted giving out his PalmPay account details and begging for money.

In a now-viral video, the masquerade was seen with a cardboard placard taped onto his clothes, and his PalmPay account details written on it.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has granted PalmPay a license to operate as an electronic wallet and mobile payment system, and it provides users with financial services through a mobile application.

The masquerade was spotted posing for pictures with several young lads who found humour in the strange sight.

Another thing that seemed to be even funnier was that the man behind the costume disclosed his identity – masquerades are traditionally anonymous – on the poster where he wrote his account number and name, Babatunde Wasiu.

Masquerades in African traditional culture are believed to be representatives of the gods on earth, and during festivals, they are often revered as such.
