Mbappe shuns Madrid, signs three-year extension with PSG

After months of media speculations, France forward, Kylian Mbappe has signed a new three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old turned down offers from La Liga giants, Real Madrid, who were ready to invest £300 million with a signing-on fee of £110 million and wages of £20 million a year after tax.

The signing puts an end to a long-standing battle for the signature of the World Cup winner.

Confirming the deal in a post on its social media handles, PSG said, “Our history is written here. Ici c’est Paris.” alongside a video of Mbappe standing on the top of the Parc des Princes.

In his official statement, an excited Mbappe said, “I am very happy. Here I can continue to grow within a club like Paris which gives everything to perform at the highest level.

“I’m also very happy to be able to continue in France, the country where I was born, grew up and flourished,” he said.

Speaking on the news, teammate Neymar said, “He’s a world class player, present and future of this club. I’m very happy that Kylian – who’s my friend and teammate – he’s staying here at Paris”.

But reacting to the announcement, LaLiga said it has officially reported Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA.

LaLiga President, Javier Tebas, in a tweet said, “What PSG is going to do by renewing Mbappe with large amounts of money (who knows where and how they pay them) after making losses of 700M in recent seasons and having more than 600M in salary, is an insult to football. Al-Khelaifi is as dangerous as the Super League”.
