The Kannywood genre of Nollywood has brought one of the fast-rising Hausa-speaking actresses, Maryam Yahaya, into the limelight. Today, the rest is history, as the popular saying goes.

Since her movie debut, fans have not been able to get enough of her. From her fantastic personality to her talent, Maryam Yahaya is worth the hype.

Maryam Yahaya biography

Maryam Yahaya was born on July 17, 1997, in Kano State.

She had her elementary and secondary school education in the northern part of the country. The young gem is, expectedly, very fluent in speaking the Hausa language.

Maryam Yahaya had always wanted to become an actress since she was young. Having watched numerous Hausa movies, her desire to be on the big screen grew daily. The good thing about this young diva is that she did not just have the desire, she had the passion and talent to back it up. Over time Yahaya revealed that amazing Kannywood actors like Ali Nuhu, Rahama Sadau, Adam Zango, and others inspired her.

After completing her secondary school education in 2015, she entered the movie industry to actualise her dream of acting. The movie that shot this rising star into the limelight was Mansoor. The role she played was initially meant for a prominent actress named Bilkisu Shema, but Yahaya ended up with the role and she performed admirably. Her acting talent was recognised, especially as she was 19 years as of then. She acted alongside Ali Nuhu, Sadiq Ahmad, and many already-established names in the industry. Her exceptional roleplay in Mansoor got her adulation from movie critics and fans and it opened the door for her and enabled her to act in other more giant movies.

Since she got on the big screen, Yahaya has endeared herself in the hearts of many because of her exceptional talent. She has a huge following on social media, especially Instagram. The young actress has 1.8 million followers and counting on Instagram. Since she made her debut in 2016, her career has grown exponentially.

Although it has not been revealed what her net worth is, many reports have provided an estimate of about N5 million-N10 million.

With how well Yahaya speaks about her parents, it is no doubt that they love her. Her father, Ibrahim Bello, and her mother, Ruqayya Bello, supported the young actress right from birth. Even when news broke of her illness on social media, her parents were beside her and stood by her in the face of the media.

Over the years, Yahaya has been affected by illness at various times to the point that in 2019, it was rumoured that she was dead and buried. The actress debunked the rumours by posting a video of herself, stating that she is alive and well.

In 2021, reports resurfaced, claiming that the actress was ill. Even her celebrity friends wished her well on social media and reached out to check on her. Many fans speculated that her sickness was a spiritual attack from her jealous colleagues in the industry. Again, she debunked this rumour in an interview with Film Magazine.

According to her, she was not been diagnosed with schizophrenia and her illness was not a spiritual attack, The actress maintained that her illness was a disease from God and not something from someone. She said: “Like every human being, God tests me with diseases, so I was tempted at this time. But I know that there is a time for everything, except for those who are greedy…It’s just a disease from God.”

Although in another interview with BBC Hausa, Maryam stated that she was battling typhoid and malaria, she believes she will get better by God’s grace. She said: “I battled typhoid and malaria; I am still battling. But Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), I am much better now.”

Yahaya lost weight when she felt ill, and her absence from movies had fans worried and wondering what had happened to her. Her absence and her subsequent confirmation of her illness fueled the rumour that she must have fallen victim to black magic.

As of now, the young damsel is well and having the time of her life on the big screen, and fans pray it remains that way.
