Man pays DMV tax in pennies - 300,000 of them!

A Virginia man upset with the Department of Motor Vehicles delivered his tax payment in pennies - $300,000 of them!

LEBANON, Va. (WTHR) - A Virginia man upset with the Department of Motor Vehicles delivered his tax payment in pennies - $300,000 of them!

Nick Stafford says he wanted to make a point since the State of Virginia denied his request for a phone number to the local DMV office. He says since the state inconvenienced him and forced him to file lawsuits to get the phone numer, he wanted to incovenience the state in return.

Stafford dumped the mass of pennies into five wheelbarrows, wheeled them into the DMV and left the wheelbarrows there, as well.

In addition to paying for the wheelbarrows, Stafford spent money on the lawsuits and to hire people to help him. He says he spent over $1,000 to make his point, plus the roughly $3,000 he delivered in change to pay the taxes on his two vehicles.

He left the DMV a satisfied customer. After all, it took department employees more than 12 hours to count all the pennies.
