Kim Kardashian's Perfume Made $10 Million in a Single Day
Just looking at Kim Kardashian West, you can bet she smells good. In days of yore, that sentence might have sounded a little too stalker-y for comfort, but we've spent the last 10 years growing up with this family. We've watched them fight, make up, move, marry, divorce, have kids—and to bring it back full circle, through it all, Kardashian has maintained her incredibly put-together aura. She's dedicated to the art of her image, so it's no surprise that when news broke that she was coming out with a Kim Kardashian perfume, people were willing to buy, scent unsniffed. And buy they did; according to TMZ, Kardashian West sold $10 million worth of her perfume in the single day it's been available.
You might be thinking: Why? How? Why, again? To the second question, well, that's the Internet, and it's known Kardashian territory. Obviously, Kylie Cosmetics is its whole thing. Back in August we found out that Kylie Jenner also made $10 million in one day from her birthday collection, and an even crazier $18 million in one day from her holiday set. So this is a well-known road for the family of money-churning entrepreneurs. They're experts at cultivating aspiration, and if you're one of Kardashian's 104 million followers, she gave you a front-row seat to the beauty that was the perfume's curated campaign. To be fair, it is pretty lust-worthy.

Which speaks to the "why"—what perfume could possibly convince people to spend $10 million? Whereas lipstick is pretty much "what you see is what you get," perfume is trickier. All we knew from Kardashian's Instagram was that the trio of perfumes were named Crystal Gardenia, Crystal Gardenia Citrus, and Crystal Gardenia Oud, and the 30-ml size is $35, the 75-ml, $60.
The crystal-inspired perfume bottles are basically made to ’gram, especially on a background of said crystals (if you happen to have a similar sitch lying around). But according to Kardashian West, that crystal inspiration came from more than a pure love of the aesthetic. As she told WWD, she leaned on crystals to find peace in the aftermath of the Paris robbery.
