“I can imagine the sulking” Mika Häkkinen does not disregard Lewis Hamilton’s departure from F1
Lewis Hamilton has achieved the greatest heights in the pinnacle of Motorsports. The Briton 7-time World Champions tied only to the great Michael Schumacher and have the most wins (103), pole positions (103), and podium finishes (183) for a Formula One driver to his name. The Briton who is used to dominating the season before it even starts, has been struggling to find the same dominance in the 2022 season.
Mercedes have suffered a poor start and has been struggling to find the pace. The W13 has suffered from porpoising and this has made the car unstable in the straights finding itself behind mid-field cars and backmarkers. Mercedes-powered teams have also been struggling for straight-line speed at times compared to those running Ferrari and Red Bull power units.
Hamilton’s contract was extended till the end of 2023. However, considering his present performance and the team is well off the front of the grid, Mika Häkkinen is questionable whether the 7-time World Champion feels comfortable continuing to compete for the Silver Arrows next season.

Mika Häkkinen: It is already difficult for Mercedes but especially for Lewis Hamilton
Mika Häkkinen shares his first impressions of the 2022 F1 season. The two-time World Champion gave his analysis of Lewis Hamilton’s form and the rise of teammate George Russell. Russell who claimed his first podium as a Mercedes driver in the 2022 Australian GP is currently 2nd on the grid and seems to be facing much fewer issues with the W13. If the poor run continues, the Finn believes Hamilton could choose to step away from F1.
Häkkinen said, “I’m afraid this will be a really difficult season for Lewis. It is already difficult for Mercedes but especially for Lewis. George comes from a team with little to no success. All the achievements with Mercedes are new to him. With George being ahead, for Lewis that will be horrible.”
He added, “I can imagine the sulking. There is a lot of Whining and complaining. Now start the natural thought process of drivers. Should I go somewhere else? It’s a fact.”
George Russell currently sits in second place in the drivers’ championship behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. While Hamilton is 5th in the rankings but is one position above his 2021 title rival Max Verstappen.
