Hugh Jackman’s X-Men 2 Co-Actress Has One Regret after Marvel Movie Did Her Character Dirty
X2: X-Men United, starring Hugh Jackman, commemorated its 20th anniversary in May. Kelly Hu, one of the film’s cast members, revealed a particular desire she had concerning her part in the sequel to the comic book movie.
Fans of Kelly Hu have conveyed a desire for the actress to have had a more substantial role in the sequel. For those who recall the film, they’ll know that even though she appears in a few scenes, the actress only utters a single line throughout the entire movie.
Kelly Hu’s Biggest Regret Playing Deathstrike In X2
On Twitter, one of Kelly Hu’s admirers shared their astonishment at the 20-year anniversary of the film’s release and expressed a desire to see more of the actress in the sequel. In response, Kelly Hu retweeted the post and added a caption saying, “I wish I had more dialog!” accompanied by a laughing-crying emoji.
In X2, Kelly Hu takes on the role of Yuriko Oyama, also known as Deathstrike. She’s a mutant endowed with Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) remarkable healing power and is manipulated by the ruthless Colonel William Stryker. Furthermore, she’s augmented with the same adamantium skeleton as Wolverine, granting her lethal adamantium claws for combat. While appearing as Stryker’s secretary Yuriko, she actually serves as his enforcer when the situation demands it.
Although her character doesn’t have many lines in the film, Kelly Hu takes center stage in two pivotal action sequences. In one, she has a memorable brief encounter with Cyclops (James Marsden) when tasked with abducting Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) during his visit to Magneto’s (Sir Ian McKellen) plastic prison on behalf of William Stryker. In her most standout scene, she engages in an evenly matched brawl with Wolverine as the sequel builds toward its climax.
Kelly Hu Will reprise Her Role On One Condition
Kelly Hu has expressed her readiness to return to her role as Lady Deathstrike within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she does have a specific request. In a conversation with ComicBookMovie.com, Kelly Hu, who lends her voice to Cheshire in the upcoming anime-inspired movie Catwoman: Hunted, discussed her renowned superhero portrayal.
Hu told ComicBookMovie.com:
“It would be awesome to bring Lady Deathstrike back and actually have some dialogue this time. (Laughs.) It would be a lot more fun with dialogue.”
Although the character meets her demise at the battle’s conclusion, Hu is open to reprising the role, provided some multiversal sorcery can bring her character back.
X2: X-Men United can be streamed on Starz.
