Akebi’s Sailor Uniform is initially titled Akebi-chan no Sailor Fuku in Japan and is a manga written and illustrated by Hiro. The manga started in 2016 in Tonari no Young Jump, the online branch of the magazine of the same name. Akebi’s Sailor Uniform is a seinen, meaning it’s primarily aimed at young adults, mostly male readers.

Akebi’s Sailor Uniform‘s manga and anime are set in a rural town and in a prestigious middle school. The story follows protagonist Akebi Komichi, as she always dreamed of wearing that school’s uniform, and the various friends she makes in class. It’s a mix of slice of life and comedy, with several incredibly talented animators on the show, at Studio Cloverworks. The same studio also handled My Dress-Up Darling.

Personally speaking, I’d as usual recommend reading the manga from the beginning. This way you could compare how the anime was handled and how it adapted certain scenes differently. While time didn’t permit me to watch the anime yet, I’ve been reading the manga since its release in 2016, and it’s been an enjoyable ride so far. The anime might end up in my hands at some point as I’ve heard a lot of good things about it as an adaptation, and I’d like to check out the seiyuu’s voice acting too.
