Hardy Street Yard Houston - Trains Magazine

Gregory,

Yes, the Amshack...uh, Amtrak station is still stashed under I 45...at the west end of the old SP Grand Central coach yards.

Ringling Brothers still park their train there when they are in town, although the second section with the animals goes over to South Yard, I believe, because it is closer to where the show is put on.

Hardy Street yard was the closest repair facility to the old SP Grand Central, so anything needing repair would be drug over there.

Not my photo, but the last version of the Grand before the Post Office was built.

Had trolley service to all of downtown Houston, and Union Station for connections to other railroads.

Greg, you would love where I work, at PTRA's North yard, literally across the street from the ship channel turning basin...I get trains and big ships to watch all day long.

It is a whole ‘nother world!
