Guide for Star Wars Episode I Racer
Click Tournament and start a new game with whatever initials you want.
Choose Anakin Skywalker.
It will start you out immediately in the "Amateur Podracing Circuit". Press to raise the stakes of the race to “Winner Takes All.” As you will need to win every race anyway and they are easy (especially at the beginning), this will maximize the amount of money you can make from simply winning races. 1st place goes from receiving 1200 truguts to 2200.
Amateur Podracing Circuit
Go ahead and just immediately start the first race.
The Boonta Training Course:
This race is extremely easy to win. I never let go of , boosted, or slowed down and still won by 7 seconds (having never played the game before, even in my childhood). There are a couple achievements you are going to want to snag real quick.
This game has a boosted start mechanic like most arcade racing games. For this one, you need to start holding right as the 1 at the start is about to go away. If you time it right, you will boost right out of the opening of the race. This will also unlock:
You should try doing this for every race as it only helps you.
Look at the bottom right hand of your screen while racing. There is a gauge with a circle at the end of it. When the gauge fills all the way up, the circle will turn green. Once this happens, you can hold as you drive to fill it up again and the circle will turn yellow. You can now press
to boost. While boosting, press
. This is how you taunt. The circle should now be red and the gauge should be filling as long as you boost. Let it fill all the way up to light your engines on fire. Hold
until they are repaired. For boosting for the first time, you will unlock:
For taunting, you will unlock:
For taunting during a boost, you will unlock:
For repairing your engines from warning to stable as Anakin, you will unlock:
Upon completing one lap of the race, you will most likely have set a new lap record. (I’m not sure if it’s even possible to not do this tbh.) This will unlock you:
Upon finishing the race, you will unlock:
For finishing in first place, you will unlock:
You should now have 2600 credits. Go down to Buy Pit Droid and buy two of them for 1000 truguts a piece. These will repair your speeder after races. You want to max your crew out early.
Mom Gazza Speedway:
Nothing specific to do on this race. It’s just really short and easy.
For finishing the race in first place, you will unlock the character Teemto Pagalies which unlocks:
Now, buy the final Pit Droid with your newly gained truguts. This will unlock:
For the rest of the game, you are going to want to check out the Junkyard and Buy Parts screens for the “best parts” for each section of your vehicle. These will be very expensive but you will have a ton of truguts as you keep winning and your pit crew repairs thing (so you don’t need to buy replacements). The parts are the following:
Traction - R-600 Repulsorgrip
Turning - Control Stabilizer
Accelerate - MAG-6 Injector
Top Speed - Block6 Thrust Coil
Air Brake - Quadrijet Air Brake
Cooling - Turbo Coolant Pump
Repair - Cluster2 Power Plug
Simply keep a look out for these throughout the game. Collecting all of them is your long term goal. You don’t really need to buy any other upgrades for your speeder as the races will be easy enough with what you have. Once you purchase the last of these upgrades, you will unlock:
Beedo’s Wild Ride:
This is a longer race. The only thing of note being that it is just barely possible to earn the achievement for reaching 700 mph at the icy part at the end of the race by boosting with your starter speeder. There is no need to stress out about getting it as you will both unlock this in the next race and have to go faster for another achievement later anyway.
For coming in first place, you will unlock the character Aldar Beedo and the achievement:
Now, back out and select your save file again. Now, choose the newly unlocked Aldar Beedo. He has a higher top speed than Anakin.
Aquilaris Classic:
Now, if you boost with Aldar Beedo, you will almost instantly unlock the following achievement:
The 1000 mph achievement is still out of your grasps though. Overall, keep the boosting to a minimum though as it will more than likely just get you killed. You’ll never have to slow down otherwise though. Win the race.
Malastare 100:
Another race that you shouldn’t really boost on much. Things of note is that some turns can be really tight, you can hold going into them to slow yourself down if you feel the need. There is also a jump near the end of the race after you round a corner. You must boost to clear this. Now, I personally fell into it and had to respawn on all 3 laps when I played this and still got first place.
Win the race and claim another 2200 truguts.
This is probably the first chance you might have at buying one of those parts from the list in the Junkyard. If you got lucky and one both appeared and was affordable, buy it. For buying your first upgrade, you will unlock:
Otherwise, you should unlock that within the next couple races.
Vengeance:
Yet again, I would absolutely not recommend using any boost unless you are behind and need to catch up. The best spot to do that is in the section where your vehicle does not touch the ground as you don’t have to worry about turns. You can only go left, right, and down, (which makes your speeder go up weirdly enough) while in that section despite it seeming as if you could move in any direction. Just dodge all the obstacles in your path. As long as you don’t die a ton, you will come in first place. This one can be rough.
For coming in first place, you will unlock the character Fud Sang and:
Spice Mine Run:
This race is back to being extreeeeeeemely easy. Without ever upgrading the speed of my speeder at this point, I was able to unlock the 1000 mph achievement at one of the straightaways. This may not happen for you though. If you do not unlock this achievement by the end of this race, you will be able to easily unlock it after buying the best Top Speed upgrade (Block6 Thrust Coil) later on.
Upon finishing the race in first place, you will have completed the Amateur Podracing Circuit. This will unlock:
Semi-Pro Podracing Circuit
Winner Takes All in this circuit’s races will reward you with 3300 truguts for first place finishes.
Sunken City:
Another easy race where you just need to not crash and you’ll win. For getting first place, you will unlock “Bullseye” Navior and:
I would recommend you switch to this character either now or after you finish this circuit. He can be the character that takes you through the rest of the game. (It says "Bullseye" Baranta in the achievement, but it should be "Bullseye" Navior.)
Howler Gorge:
There is a big hill that you drop over near the end of the race. As you go down the big hill, there is a cliff with ice on the other side of it. You need to boost to make it over the gap here. Other than that, this is yet another just drive and don’t crash level.
Dug Derby:
This level has a much more tight time to beat. You will need to boost when you get the chance but be very careful. Any deaths can doom you to lose. Keep pushing until you can win the race.
Scrapper’s Run:
Yet again, just drive without crashing and boost when you can. Should be able to win pretty easily. I will not be commenting on basically any levels from now on (unless something is different that needs to be added). This is consistently how to win especially now that your racer is getting better and better with the best upgrades. Crashes overpower boosts/going extra fast.
For getting first place, you will unlock Wan Sandage and:
Zugga Challenge
Baroo Coast
Bumpy’s Beakers:
Once you win this, you will have completed the Semi-Pro circuit which unlocks:
Galactic Podracing Circuit
Executioner
Sebulba’s Legacy
Grabvine Gateway
Andobi Mountain Run
Dethro’s Revenge:
The top path is much, much better than the bottom path. So aim to stay on it.
Fire Mountain Rally
The Boonta Classic
For winning this race, you will have both unlocked Sebulba and completed the Galactic Circuit which unlocks:
If you are not using the cheat code method, you can just dashboard out of this and restart the game. If you are cheating, you must wait through all of the extremely long credits.
Invitational Podracing Circuit
Ando Prime Centrum:
Boost on all the big straightaways and just avoid crashing and you can pretty easily crush the other drivers on this one even without upgrades still (I did it on accident thinking I was doing the first race of the Semi-Pro Circuit). For getting first place, you will unlock Slide Paramita and:
Abyss:
This was the hardest race in the game. Even fully upgraded, it was still rough for me. The key is that you absolutely need to stay on the upper path the first time it splits in the race. If you fall off, you will come to the part where the two paths intersect all the way back in the bottom half of the racers. Just reset if you fall off, at least if it was on the first lap. Eventually, you will be able to do it!
For getting first place on this race, you will unlock Bozzie Baranta and:
The Gauntlet
Inferno:
Upon winning this final race, you will have finished getting first place in all races and completed the Invitational Podracing Circuit. These both have achievements tied to them:
Assuming you bought all the best upgrades, you will only need to snag the Sebulba and Mirrored Mode achievements.
So, load up your save file again and choose Sebulba. Click the very first race and turn on Mirrored Mode. As soon as the race starts, press to activate Sebulba’s flamethrower out of the side of his vehicle. This should hit a few racers. You need to hit 10. So, restart the race and repeat until you unlock:
Now, play through the actual race and win it. This will unlock an achievement for winning as Sebulba and for winning a Mirrored race:
And… that’ll be the final achievement. Congrats on the completion!
