Guide for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Zombies

BLOOD OF THE DEAD

(Some pictures in this section provided by YouTube channels: Glitch, MRoflWaffles, NoahJ456, and PowerPyx).

Welcome to Alcatraz Island. This map is a reimagining of Mob of the Dead from Black Ops II, except it got a huge buff in difficulty. This map is what many consider to be the hardest Zombies map in Black Ops 4, and possibly the entire series, both in terms of gameplay and achievements. Definitely be careful, as this map will put your skills to the test.

MAP FEATURES

POWER

Blood of the Dead has two power switches on different sides of the map that you'll need to activate in order to be able to access all the map has to offer.

The first switch is on the West side of the island, inside the Power House building.

Image 1

The second switch is down by the docks, inside Building 64.

Image 1

NOTE: When both power switches have been activated, a guaranteed warden is going to spawn. Be ready to kill it and grab its key if you didn't already.

PERKS

Here are the four perk locations around the map:

Brew - outside the Power House building

Image 1

Cola - the Docks Bridge, in a small courtyard area

Image 2

Soda - near the entrance to the rooftops, inside the Infirmary

Image 2

Tonic - inside the Warden's Office

Image 2

THE CATWALK

After starting the map, you'll probably get the power on for the West side of the island, but how do you get to the rest of the island? Well, once the power switch has been activated in the power house, you may walk up to this door with the sign above it and see it says to hold cn_X to open the Catwalk.

Image 1

Doing this will start a sort of endurance section, where in order to make it to the prison, you'll have to quickly make your way through the catwalk, killing zombies, hellhounds, and possibly wardens. Make good use of your specialist weapon for this section, as it can be kind of difficult without it. You'll need to keep moving forward to the end of the path, until eventually you are greeted with a familiar sight as you enter the Mob of the Dead spawn room.

WOLF HEADS/HELL'S RETRIEVER

Around the map, you may notice some symbols drawn on the walls that look like a demonic dog. If you've played Mob of the Dead, you know what to do with these symbols, but if you haven't, the wolf heads need to be fed zombies. To do this, just kill zombies near the wolf head drawing until it stops eating zombies and disappears into the wall. When you've fed all three wolf heads around the map, you will be able to get the Hell's Retriever tomahawk weapon. Here are the three wolf head locations to feed zombies:

New Industries, near where you spawn, inside a factory building

Image 1

Cell Block 2nd Floor, on some metal sheets on the wall

Image 1

Eagle's Plaza, outside the Warden's office, but before his house, in the alley

Image 1

Once you've filled all three wolf heads completely with zombie corpses, go to the Warden's house and use the fast travel gate inside. When inside, hold cn_X while flying, and your character should eventually grab the Hell's Retriever for you to use. Here's a video showing you how to get it once you've filled the three heads.

HELL'S RETRIEVER UPGRADE

THIS UPGRADE CAN ONLY BE DONE ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY WITH NO MODIFIERS.

To upgrade the Hell's Retriever, you will need to have the shield and the regular Hell's Retriever before beginning. Once you have these two items, go to the Recreation Yard area of the map and start throwing charged throws of the Hell's Retriever by holding down cn_RB before letting go to throw it. If you're doing this correctly, you'll see your tomahawk start to glow blue when thrown, like in the picture below.

Image 1

Once you've killed 30 zombies, your tomahawk will stop glowing blue when thrown, and you should hear a loud wolf howl to signify completion. Once this is done, you will have to locate one of ten wolf symbol locations around the map. To see the symbol, you will need to hold cn_LT while holding the shield out to view into the spirit realm. Do this at all ten spots until you find the symbol. Here are all ten possible spawns for the symbol:

Four possible spawns for the symbol are in the Recreation Yard area of the map.

On the path in the lava pool, to the left of the Swordfish wall buy

Image 1

On a piece of wall to the left of the Mystery Box

Image 1

On a piece of rubble, just to the right of the stairs leading to the prison

Image 1

On a metal sheet, just before the stairs leading up to the prison

Image 1

Four more spawns are in the Citadel area.

On the wall below the three wolf head symbols

Image 1

On a wall when facing to the left of the last symbol

Image 1

On a wall behind you, behind a gate

Image 1

In a hole in the wall, just before going down the stairs to the lower area of the Citadel

Image 1

Two more spawns are in the Eagle Plaza area.

To the left of a water pipe, in the lava pool across from the wolf head

Image 1

Also in the lava pool across from the wolf head, on a piece of sheet metal

Image 1

Once you've located your symbol, throw your Hell's Retriever at it, and the game should take your Hell's Retriever from you. Now, you will have to wait for your next dog round. When fog envelops the map and you're on a dog round, pull out your shield and use cn_RT to take dog souls to charge your shield blasts. Keep one dog alive and search around the map with your shield out for a ghost dog. You will have to use the spectral vision, or cn_LT with the shield out to see the dog. Unfortunately, the dog can be pretty much anywhere on the map, so you'll have to scour the entire map to find it. If you're close, you may see some footprints on the ground showing you his path.

Image 1

Once you've located the dog, go ahead and use a shield blast by holding cn_LT and then tapping cn_RT to shoot the dog. If done correctly, the dog should disappear. Now, take the fast travel from the Warden's House area and when passing by the Hell's Retriever, it should now be glowing blue, indicating it has been upgraded.

Image 1

Grab it, holding cn_X like when you first grabbed it, and you should now have the Hell's Redeemer.

SPECTRAL SHIELD/PACK-A-PUNCH

I will explain why these two are bundled together in a bit, but for now, let's see how to build the shield. In order to build the shield, you will need the key, the grate, and the spectral essence. Here are where you can locate these three parts:

Part 1 - Key

The key will drop out of the first warden you kill in the game, so if you get a warden to spawn while making your way through the catwalk sprint, he should drop it when you kill him. If he doesn't spawn during the catwalk section, one will be guaranteed to spawn after turning on both power switches in the map.

Image 1

Part 2 - Spectral Essence

The spectral essence is able to be located on one of three of the red power boxes used to activate the spirit mode in Mob of the Dead.

The first possible spawn is on the box inside of the original Mob of the Dead spawn room, now called the Library

Image 1

The second possible spawn is in Times Square near the entrance to the Showers area

Image 1

The last possible spawn for the essence is in Michigan Avenue, just outside the entrance to the Warden's Office

Image 1

Part 3 - Grate

Finally, we'll need to get the grate, which is somewhere in or near the Citadel. Here are the possible locations for the grate piece.

The first possible spawn is in the citadel, on one of the walls you run past down the spiral

Image 1

The second possible spawn is down the stairs from the number code, near some rubble

Image 1

The third possible spawn is outside the citadel, just across from Building 64

Image 1

Once you've located all the pieces, go to the upstairs section of the cells, in the Cell Block 3rd Floor area, there should be a buildable table you can craft the shield at. I would highly recommend placing it here.

Image 1

Now that you have the shield, go through the Infirmary area of the map, and head upstairs to the roof. To get Pack-A-Punch online, you'll have to use the shield key attack to take the essence from multiple zombies. To use this, hit cn_LB to pull out the shield, and hold cn_RT to use the key attack on zombies. Be aware that the key attack takes about 4-5 seconds to actually kill a single zombie, so don't rely on it to kill large hordes. To get a charge on your key, it will take three zombie kills with the key attack for it to gain one charged shot. When you have one charged shot, hold cn_LT to put your key into the shield and see the spirit realm. Walk over to the power box next to Pack-A-Punch, press cn_RT, and your shield will fire a horde of spirits at the power box and turn it on.

Image 1

This will activate Pack-A-Punch, which will move between multiple areas on the map. These areas are: the Power house near spawn, the Docks power room, and the roof near the Infirmary.

UPGRADED SHIELD

To obtain the upgraded shield on this map, you will need to obtain the normal shield and the Hell's Retriever. When you are playing it's best to have everyone by the box when it is being spun. Now, you will need to hit the box repeatedly with your shield equipped, and be ready for when the box is moving (i.e. when you see a lock in the box instead of a weapon). Start to use the key ability, or cn_RT, to start stealing the essence from the lock in the box.

Image 1Image 1

When the keyhole on the lock turns blue, throw your Hell's Retriever at the lock to grab it out of the box. Everyone in the game should throw their retrievers at the same time to grab the lock for themselves. Your shield(s) should now be called the Attuned Spectral Shield and should be upgraded. This upgraded shield allows you to hold up to four spirit blast charges and can take more damage before breaking.

SPOON MELEE WEAPON

NOTE: The spoon cannot be obtained on casual difficulty, as the spoon is considered part of the Easter Egg for this map.

After grabbing the warden's key from a dead warden enemy, if you make your way to the Citadel Tunnels location near the docks, you'll see a locked gate with what looks like a code switch behind it. Go ahead and use the key to unlock the code box. We will use it in just a second to enter a code.

Image 1

Head over to the Warden's office and stand in this spot. Pull out the shield and hold cn_LT to view into the spirit realm, and you should see three numbers written on the pillars in the room. This code will change every game, so you'll have to check it every time you play the map and want the spoon.

Image 1

When you have the code memorized, go back to the code box in the Citadel Tunnels, and blast the code box with a shield blast. This will allow you to tap cn_X on each individual number to enter your code.

Image 1

Image 1

With the code entered, you should notice to the left of the box that a giant cage will fall into the water below, with a skeleton that is holding the spoon you're looking for. Make sure before doing this next step that you also have the Hell's Retriever equipped, as there is no other way to get the spoon. To get the spoon for yourself, head down to the docks and look out near the waters. You should see another power box to spirit blast, similar to the one to activate Pack-A-Punch.

Image 1

Blast it with another spirit blast from your shield, then look up. You should see a crane moving a large fishing net, and one of the things the net has caught is the skeleton from earlier with the spoon in his hand. Throw your Hell's Retriever at the skeleton when it is directly over a box on the dock, and it should then drop the spoon for you and all your teammates to pick up.

Image 1Image 1

GONDOLA

Between the prison and the docks sections of the map, there is a large gondola you can take to get between the two areas quicker. This cannot be used until both power switches have been activated. The entrances are at the Docks Bridge, and the Cell Block 3rd Floor areas.

Image 1Image 1

FREE BLUNDERGAT

To obtain a free blundergat wonder weapon, you will first need to obtain the Hell's Retriever. When you have that, there will be five blue skulls you can grab around the map using the Hell's Retriever.

Throw your Hell's Retriever at these five locations to grab the skulls:

Eagle's Plaza, near the dog head, outside the Warden's Office

Image 1

On the Roof, behind the Pack-A-Punch power box

Image 1

C-D Street, inside a cell toilet

Image 1

West Grounds, right outside the entrance to Model Industries, on a catwalk

Image 1

Docks, on top of a wooden dock pole

Image 1

After all five skulls have been grabbed, head to the Warden's Office, and on his desk, a Blundergat should spawn for you to grab.

Image 1

(Thanks to the r/codzombies subreddit for the pictures for this section).

BLUNDERGAT UPGRADES

Beyond taking the blundergat to the Pack-A-Punch and upgrading it, there are two elemental upgrades you can perform to make the weapon even stronger. The two upgrades are to turn the weapon into the Acid Gat and the Magma Gat. To get the Acid Gat, there are three pieces around the map you'll need to grab to build the Acid Gat upgrade kit.

The first piece is in the Transverse Tunnel area of the map. This is the tunnel that connects New Industries to the power house area on the West side of the map. It should look like a briefcase on the ground.

Image 1

To get the next two pieces, you will need to have already killed a warden special enemy and grabbed the Warden's Key off the ground. For the next spot, head to the Warden's Office, and off to the side you should see a locked cage with a glowing orange lock that has a motor behind it. Use the warden's key to unlock the door and grab the piece.

Image 1

Finally, the last piece is in the Infirmary as you make your way to the roof behind a locked cabinet with a glowing orange lock. This is on the other side of the wall that has the Soda perk. Use the warden's key to unlock the cabinet and grab the piece.

Image 1

When you have the pieces, head to one of the remaining buildable tables around the map. I personally recommend building at the table near the Transverse Tunnel location back on the West side of the island.

Image 1

To get the Magma Gat upgrade, you'll have to do a mini-quest to obtain it. First, take your Blundergat or Acid Gat over to the Warden's House and you'll need to hold cn_X in front of the fireplace with the weapon out to place it in the fireplace.

Image 1

Once it's placed, you'll be locked into the Warden's House, and you'll need to get about 15-20 zombie souls, which is basically killing the zombie and then grabbing a little blue orb out of them. When you have the orbs, go up to the fireplace and holdcn_X to place the souls. Once you have placed enough souls, you should be able to hold cn_X on the Blundergat again, which will allow you to pick up the Tempered Blundergat. Now, get your running shoes on, because you're going to have to run from the Warden's House to the New Industries building to finish the upgrade process. On your way there though, you'll notice the Blundergat will start to lose its blue flame. To keep the flame going, there will be fire barrels on the path to the New Industries building that when you run past them, will reignite the flame. I would recommend doing this at the end of a round with one zombie left, as you will have to cross the catwalk which can be tough with a ton of zombies spawning. Here is the path to run with the Blundergat to get back to the New Industries building. Ensure you walk near all the barrels I do in the video.

When you've made it back to the New Industries building, walk over to this giant machine and hold cn_X to place the Blundergat.

Image 1

After a few moments, you will be able to grab your blundergat again, now finally having been upgraded to the Magma Gat. Doing this whole process will also net you:

ACHIEVEMENTS

First up on the list is yet another survival achievement that asks you to survive a certain amount of rounds in a certain area of the map. This time, you'll need to survive 20 rounds without opening the catwalk and making your way to the prison portion of the map. This means you can use the entire side of the island you're on, and you only get one perk. Before starting the game you perform this on, it should be noted that this can be done on casual difficulty with three bots if you are having difficulty.

To survive this challenge, you'll want to hit the box as much as you can in hopes of getting a Blundergat, along with maybe an assault rifle of some kind off the wall, like the VAPR. The Blundergat is going to be your bread and butter in the later rounds, as things can get pretty crazy in the late teen rounds. I would recommend opening all the doors that you can in the area, then running a large loop from the courtyard outside Richtofen's lab, running into the Model Industries building, using the tunnel to head towards the power building, and then finally using the staircase to make your way up to the courtyard again. Run this loop, occasionally turning around to shoot some zombies, and be careful not to stop for too long so zombies don't spawn in front of you and swarm you.

After making it to round 20, you will unlock:

The next achievement requires you to revive a player with the shield. To do this, acquire the shield using the guide above. You will also need to use the key charge attack by holding cn_RT and stealing the essence from three zombies to get one shield blast. When you have a blast, a player in your game will need to go down and need to be revived. Simply hold cn_LT while looking at the player that is down on the ground, and hit cn_RT to blast them and revive them, unlocking:

The next achievement tasks you with completing a gondola ride with the warden. I would recommend doing this in a solo match, as the game gives you two free self-revives at the start of a match in a solo game. You can also do casual difficulty if you want. To get the warden to spawn, go down to the docks area and activate the second power switch for the map. When this is done, a warden should spawn. Quickly make your way up to the gondola entrance and call it down to the docks. You will then need to avoid the warden and any zombies spawning until the gondola is down at the docks and ready to be used, indicated by green lights on the side of it, and a little alarm bell sound. When it's ready, ensure you have 750 points before running up to the gondola with the warden. When he is in the gondola with you, hit cn_X to start the ride with the warden. Try to run in circles to the best of your ability with him, but most likely he will down you, which is okay because the ride does not need you to be standing for it to count. When the gondola makes it up to the cell block again, you should unlock:

Before starting the game for this next achievement, do not have any attachments or death effects on the Tommy Gun, as people have reported this will not allow the achievement to unlock. Also, the spoon cannot be obtained on casual difficulty, as the spoon is considered part of the Easter Egg for this map, so this achievement needs to be completed on normal difficulty.

There is also another achievement that simply requires you to have the Hell's Retriever, Spoon melee weapon, the Tommy Gun, and the Blundergat all in your loadout at the same time. To do this, simply use the guides above to get both the Hell's Retriever and the Spoon melee weapons. You can get the Blundergat from hitting the Mystery Box, or you can get it using the free Blundergat mini-quest from above as well. To get the Tommy Gun, there is a wall buy down at the docks for 1,500 points to acquire it. It will be located in a corner underneath a sign with the word Dock on it.

Image 1

When you've acquired all four weapons in your loadout at one time, you will unlock:

The next achievement requires you to feed wolves from Model Industries, the Citadel, and the Gondola. First off, this achievement is buggy, so if it doesn't unlock after doing it, you may have to try again. I would HIGHLY recommend you do this co-op as doing this achievement solo can be tough to do. I would also recommend you grab a sniper or tactical rifle, such as the ABR, the Paladin, the Koshka, or the Essex Model 07 if you're early in the rounds. You can also try this achievement by taking claymores before the game starts and having a friend hold a zombie away from it until you're in position. When you're in position, have your friend lead the zombie to the claymore near the wolf head location.

For the first location, Model Industries is the room above Richtofen's laboratory spawn room. To do this, have your friend train some zombies in the room with the wolf head in New Industries, and then use your weapon to shoot into the room, hoping you get a kill. Have your friend confirm that the kill you got fed the wolf. If this happens, you can move on to the next location. Here is where you should set yourself up to get the kill in Model Industries.

Image 1

Next, do the same thing with the wolf head in the Cell Block 2nd Floor. Have your friend train in the room with the wolf head. Head down to the Citadel and approach this wall. Look up and you should see your friend training through the grated floor. Shoot up through the floor to kill a zombie and feed the wolf.

Image 1Image 1

For the last wolf head, get your friend to train some zombies near the wolf head in Eagle's Plaza. Head down to the docks and call the Gondola to use. When it's ready, use it to head towards the prison block, and look over to the alley where your friend is training. Try to be quick and kill a zombie before the Gondola stops moving. You can also place a claymore in Eagle Plaza near the wolf head spawn. Have your friend walk with the zombie in the Warden's Office. When you're on the gondola moving towards the cell block, have your friend lead the zombie to the claymore you placed. Hopefully, it will die and feed the wolf.

Image 1

If you fed a wolf a zombie from each of the three above areas in one game, you should unlock:

The next achievement requires you to kill a warden with each of the three blundergat variations. To do this, first get a normal blundergat, either through the Mystery Box, or through the free Blundergat quest detailed above. Once you have it, wait for a warden to spawn and kill it. Then, upgrade your blundergat to the Magmagat using the quest detailed above as well. Wait for another warden to spawn and then kill it. Finally, obtain all the pieces for the Acid Gat upgrade kit and upgrade the Magmagat to the Acid Gat. Wait for the final warden, and then kill him with the Acid Gat. If you did this successfully in one game, you will unlock:

The final miscellaneous achievement requires you to get the maximum amount of kills with the Hell's Redeemer before it comes back to you. This achievement, unfortunately, is buggy as well, so you may need to try it again and again before it decides to unlock.

For now, go ahead and follow along with the guides above to get the Hell's Retriever, the shield, and then finally to upgrade the Hell's Retriever to the Hell's Redeemer. Once you have it you'll have to keep training zombies and holding cn_RB down to charge the tomahawk before throwing it at a large horde of zombies. You'll know it's fully charged when you see three blue rings pulse out from under you. An instakill seems to greatly help, so if you get one, take full advantage of it for this achievement. Some people have said throwing it at the zombies feet help to unlock, some people have said to pause the game before the Redeemer returns to hopefully unlock it. Like I said before, it's a pretty buggy achievement. Keep hording up zombies and throwing the tomahawk until you eventually unlock:
