Guide for Battlefield 1 - Multiplayer: In the Name of the Tsar
IN THE NAME OF TSAR
The second DLC expansion, In the Name of Tsar, added the Russian Empire, as well as the first female soldier, to Battlefield 1. The new addition features snowy landscapes and weapons of the White and Red Armies, and five new achievements for returning players. Like the previous DLC, the completion is simple but lengthy, with the achievements following essentially the same format as the last addition. Boosting sessions will make this much easier, once again.
How to Create and Join Gaming Sessions on TrueAchievements / Battlefield 1 Sessions
1. The Revolution is Coming
Description: Play all "In the Name of the Tsar" operations
Don't forget to check the Beginner's Guide if you're unfamiliar with how the Operations game-mode works. To start, head to the multiplayer screen with and then select "Operations". As mentioned before, each Operation has a specific name. For this particular achievement, you need to play the two titled "Red Tide" and "Brusilov Offensive".
Once again, as written with every other operation-based achievement, if you can't find a full game, you have a few options. The best way to find games in general is to go into the server search, and then set your player slots to None, 1-5, and 6-10. Never have "All" selected, as it will only show empty games; it's a bug that never got fixed. And, of course, make sure your region is set to your closest location to avoid poor connection. Even after doing all of this, you still might not find a full or available match. So if all else fails, you'll likely need to start up a boosting session, as described in the article above. Lastly (though not very convenient), if you happen to be in a region such as Oceania or Asia, you might want to switch your Xbox One region to something else, or try to join US players in a game instead. These regions are infamous for being unable to fill matches.
Once you're in the game, all you need to do is complete the match. Whether or not you joined mid-match does not matter. You can join at any time and, unlike the previous achievement in the base game, you do not need to win the match for this achievement to unlock. Regardless, if you still want a few tips on how to win the match, they are as follows:
- Generally speaking, playing the defensive position tends to be easier
- When playing offensive, keep your troops alive and avoid wasting respawns
- You can switch teams by pressing start and then
- You won't be able to switch if the teams are unbalanced; wait it out
- If you're defeated, just keep trying. Or switch to a different server with a new team
Lastly, note that Operations can last more than one round. You need to finish the entire Operation for the achievement to count. As noted before, it doesn't matter how many rounds you win, only that you complete the entire Operation as a whole. So it's as easy as finding a full match and going from there. Once you have completed both operations, the achievement will pop:
2. Endured the Winter
Description: Play a round on all "In the Name of the Tsar" maps
As described above, all you need to do is play a match on every In the Name of the Tsar map to earn this achievement. There are six in total and can be found in most game modes. So you could essentially find yourself playing on each map by just working on the other achievements in the DLC. But it's obviously much quicker to actually search for the maps in the server browser instead. The maps are as follows:
- Brusilov Keep - "Russia's Entry into the War"
- Lupkow Pass - "Harsh Climate"
- Volga River - "Women's Battalion of Death"
- Galicia - "Eastern Front"
- Albion - "Operation Albion"
- Tsaritsyn - "Bolshevik Revolution"
Note the description beside the name of the map. The phrase that follows is the codex entry that you earn when you complete the round. These entries can be used to keep track of your progress, and can be found under the section titled "The War".
Although the achievement description says to "play" a round on each map, many players have reported that this achievement did not unlock until they actually "won" a round on each map. So it's obviously better to play with the intention to win. In addition to this, you can also join the match at any time, just as long as you finish the round until the end. So, use the server browser to search for a match, using to open the filter options. Then, select the particular map that you're going for, and search. Look for games that are either mostly full, or that are completely full. With a partially full match, you'll need to wait a bit for it to fill up. For a full match, you'll need to wait for someone to leave to take their place. Either option works, but joining a full match usually has a less lengthy wait time. Alternatively, creating a private match should also work for this.
Once you're in the match, spawn as quickly as you can. You won't get credit for the match if it ends before you have spawned in, so you don't want to waste too much time in the menus. After that, just finish the match entirely, and you'll earn a codex entry for that particular map. Once again, if you complete a round on every map but the achievement still hasn't popped, check your codex entries to see if there's anything missing. Once the game has registered that you have completed all six rounds, the achievement will pop:
3. Charged Into Battle
Description: Kill 25 enemies with the Lance as Cavalry
Only certain maps and/or game modes will let you spawn as Cavalry, so this might take a bit of time. In addition to this, you need to make sure to select the Lance as your secondary weapon, either in the soldier screen or before the start of the match.
Cavalry kills can be pretty tricky if you're not experienced with the class. It should be self-explanatory, but just in case, a lance can only be used while actually on the horse. So you can't just abandon it and get your kills on-foot. You'll need to either swing the lance as you're beside an enemy, or charge them afar for the kill. As I said, it's not easy if it's your first time. But here are some tips for the Cavalry class that might help out a bit:
- Cavalry is best used for hit-and-run tactics. Be swift.
- Think of the lance like a bayonet. Charging means little direction.
- If you miss, keep going. Put distance between you first.
- While riding, make wide turns and stay on the move. Serpentine.
- Charging at full speed is not always wise. Slow down to aim.
- The Lance will not work on enemy Cavalry, so avoid those.
- If injured, hide and dismount to heal. Don't lose your class.
Lastly, remember that you can always have a friend join your game, as to use for easy kills. Or, you can set up a boosting session, or even a private server. Whichever is more convenient. For the game mode, I would recommend Conquest, as you will for sure be able to spawn as vehicles. As for the map, try to go for Lupkow Pass and other DLC locations. The maps aren't as much of an issue, as there are a lot of non-DLC locations that allow Cavalry spawning as well. Once you've collected 25 lance kills in total, the achievement will pop:
4. Secured the Resources
Description: Win 5 games of Supply Drop
This achievement will absolutely require some form of boosting. I highly recommend either renting a server or creating a session to fill a match. The Supply Drop game mode has been empty for a very long time, so the chances of being able to find a full game are slim to none.
As stated above, you need to play and win 5 matches in total to earn the achievement. The game mode is rather simple to understand; supplies will drop from above and players will congregate in the area in order to collect the supplies for their team. Teams that control the area (without being contested) will earn both the objective points and the supplies inside. Multiple supply crates will spawn, so it's all about dividing the team and keeping control of each crate as best as you can. Some additional tips:
- As per usual, joining the game late will still count.
- Keep track of the drops, don't just idly kill players.
- Play defensively, stack health and ammo crates.
- If all else fails, remember that you can switch teams.
If you're lucky, you'll be able to keep the game alive long enough to score your wins. If you're having trouble finding a match, I once again advise you to use TA to create a session. Using a rented server can be very beneficial in this instance, as you can edit the game rules to earn the achievement faster. For example, when customizing your own lobby, you can:
- Disable pre-game deployment, allowing the game to start with as few as two players.
- Reduce the ticket totals required to complete a match, making the rounds go faster.
- Allow everyone to be on the same team, chasing different objectives, without any enemies whatsoever.
It's also worth noting that, when renting a server, you don't even need a second player. If you shut off the pre-game deployment, you can finish the entire match alone. But nonetheless, regardless of the method you use, once you've won 5 games in total, the achievement will unlock:
5. Filled the Stockpile
Description: Perform a kill with all "In the Name of the Tsar" weapon variants
If you have completed the They Shall Not Pass DLC, you'll already know how to earn this achievement. It has the same requirements and methods, just with different weapons. So feel free to skip the following information. I will once again provide both a boosting method and a full method.
Note that this achievement has many more weapons than the previous one, and will therefore take much more time to complete. There are 19 in total, and this time, variants are required for the achievement. Note that these weapons are available via the DLC weapon assignments. This means that you technically need to unlock them first in order to equip and use them. However, you can bypass this by playing with friends who have already unlocked the weapons themselves, as said previously. Below is the list of weapons needed for the achievement:
- Assault
- Model 1900 Factory
- Model 1900 Slug
- SMG 08/18 Factory
- SMG 08/18 Optical
- Medic
- Fedorov Avtomat Optical
- Fedorov Avtomat Trench
- General Liu Rifle Factory
- General Liu Rifle Storm
- Support
- Parabellum MG14/17 Low Weight
- Parabellum MG14/17 Suppressive
- Perino Model 1908 Defensive
- Perino Model 1908 Low Weight
- Scout
- Mosin-Nagant M91 Infantry
- Mosin-Nagant M91 Marksman
- Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87 Carbine
- Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87 Infantry
- Sidearms
- Nagant Revolver
- Obrez Pistol
- Other
- C93 Carbine
To complete all of the weapon assignments is to put quite a bit of playtime into the game. However, if you can find a friend, or get into a boosting session, this achievement becomes much more simple. You'll be shaving quite a bit of time off of your completion if you do so (we're talking at least a few hours), so I highly recommend taking advantage of the sessions that TA offers. As with before, we'll start with the boosting method first.
Boosting Method
As said above, the boosting method is the shortest method you can use to unlock this achievement. It requires a minimum of two players, with at least one player having access to all of the weapons needed for the achievement. Obviously, if one person only has a few of the weapons, you can find another person to get the others from. But it's definitely faster if you can get them all from one person. If more than one person needs the achievement, feel free to add them into the rotation. After you have a squad ready, you'll need to find a match. There are two options here.
The first is to go into a public game. This can be a pain because you'll be dealing with both enemies and allies all around the map. However, it's still doable. If you intend to boost this in a public match, I recommend using a large game-mode that allows you to spawn on specific objectives. Conquest is a good choice for this.
The second option is to create a private match. This requires you to rent a server, or have someone else in the session rent one. They aren't too expensive for a day, especially if you're splitting the cost with other session members, but it still requires you to cough up real cash. The up-side is that you won't be dealing with any other players, and you can change the game rules as needed. See the Beginner's Guide if you need to know more, or if you need to know how to rent the server.
Once you're in a match, you'll need to follow a specific process in order to pick up each weapon. Make sure that the player who has the weapons actually has them set in their loadouts, just to make it easier:
- Have each player spawn at the same objective that's farthest from battle (Point A or Point F)
- If in a private match, make sure the player with the weapons is on the opposite team before spawning
- Because there are no other enemies in a private match, the spawn location does not matter
- The player who has the weapons needs to either redeploy or die to drop their weapon.
- After the player dies, have one of the players that needs the achievement pick up the weapon to get a kill
- If in public, it might take a few tries. If they don't make it, just do the process again for the gun
- If in private, you can just have your friend with the weapons respawn and then kill them
- After the kill, return to the spawn and have the other player spawn with one of the other four guns
- Repeat the steps to get kills until the players have gotten a kill with all of the weapons needed
The players that get all five weapon kills will unlock the achievement (the achievement tracker works, but is said to be buggy at times). As said above, the more players that need the achievement, the more times the player with the weapons will need to respawn. But the process works with as many players as you need. This boosting method is the same method that you will use for all of the weapon assignment achievements as well. So remember it if you plan to do other DLC.
Full Method
Though significantly longer than boosting, the full method for unlocking all the weapons is still very doable. Each weapon has two requirements to complete. The first objective has to be completed before moving on to the second. You can also only complete one weapon assignment at a time. So if you’re onto the second requirement for two different weapons, there’s no point in going for both at once. Below is a chart that lists each weapon and its requirements, as well as some tips on how to go about completing them.
WEAPON | CLASS | REQUIREMENT #1 | REQUIREMENT #2 | METHOD |
| Model 1900 Factory | Assault | Perform 40 kills with the M97 Trench Gun Backboard | In a round, perform 5 kills with the AT Rocket Gun | Direct hits with the AT gun will kill infantry, so go for easy shots. The weapon is self-explanatory. |
| Model 1900 Slug | Assault | Perform 50 kills with the 12G Automatic Extended | Perform 20 kills with the Gasser M1870 Pistol | Both objectives are fairly simple. Just remember to equip each weapon. |
| SMG 08/18 Factory | Assault | Perform 15 kills with the MP188 Trench | Perform 10 kills with the Anti-Tank Grenade | You don't need to target tanks to get AT grenade kills. Aim for buildings and trenches as well. |
| SMG 08/18 Optical | Assault | Perform 50 Kills with the Automatico M1918 Trench | Destroy 5 tanks with the Anti-Tank Mine | Anti-tank mines can be tricky. Try and place them in heavy travel points that are difficult to see. |
| Fedorov Avtomat Optical | Medic | Perform 50 kills with the Selbastlader M1916 Optical | Perform 20 Kills with the C96 Pistol | Simple enough. Use the pistol at close range and switch weapons when needed. |
| Fedorov Avtomat Trench | Medic | Perform 40 Kills with the Cei-Rigotti Trench | Perform 40 squad heals | Use the med pouches when attacking and the med crate when defending for the best results. |
| General Liu Rifle Factory | Medic | Perform 40 kills with the Mondragon Storm | Perform 30 squad revives | Don't forget to equip the needle before heading into the match. Otherwise, it's fairly simple. |
| General Liu Rifle Storm | Medic | Perform 50 kills with the Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman | Perform 30 kills with the Rifle Grenade FRG | As with before, use rifle grenades to take out infantry. Attack buildings and trenches. |
| Parabellum MG14/17 Low Weight | Support | Destroy 2 airplanes with LMGs | Perform 20 kills with the Mortar Airburst | Mortars should be used on narrow paths with clumps of enemies. Position yourself so you can't be flanked! |
| Parabellum MG14/17 Suppressive | Support | Perform 40 kills with the Lewis Gun Low Weight | Perform 50 vehicle repairs | Keep your vehicle at a safe distance so you can fall back to repair it. It also counts when healing ally vehicles. |
| Perino Model 1908 Defensive | Support | Perform 50 kills with the Bar M1918 Storm | Perform 20 kills with the Repetierpistole M1912 Pistol | Self-explanatory. Use these weapons to collect kills and so on. |
| Perino Model 1908 Low Weight | Support | Perform 40 kills with the MG15 n.A. Low Weight | In a round, Perform 10 squad resupplies | Resupplies follow the same rule as the medic items. Pouches for small groups, crate for big ones. |
| Mosin-Nagant M91 Infantry | Scout | In a round, perform 3 headshot kills with the SMLE MkIII Infantry | Perform 20 kills with the Mars Automatic Pistol | One again self-explanatory. Just remember to get the headshots in one round. |
| Mosin-Nagant M91 Marksman | Scout | Perform 50 kills with the Gewehr 98 Marksman | Perform 15 kills with the Tripwire Bomb HE | Tripwire bombs are best positioned in choke points, like doorways and trenches. |
| Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87 Carbine | Scout | Perform 50 kills with the SMLE MkIII Carbine | Destroy 1 vehicle with K bullets | K bullets do limited damage, so you absolutely need teammates damaging the vehicles first. Or use a field gun. |
| Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87 Infantry | Scout | Perform 15 kills with the M1903 Experimental | Perform 20 periscope spot assists | Periscope spots can be tricky if your allies aren't trying for kills. A friend might help. |
| Nagant Revolver | Pilot/Tanker | Perform 20 kills with the Luger P08 pistol | N/A | Another self-explanatory objective. Equip the correct gun and go for it. |
| Obrez Pistol | Pilot/Tanker | In a round, perform 5 kills with the MLE 1903 Pistol | N/A | And yet again, self-explanatory. Just make sure all five kills are in the same round. |
| C93 Carbine | Pilot/Tanker | Perform 40 kills with the FT Light Tank | N/A | Position yourself at a safe distance and fire away at infantry. See the hints and tips page if you need more info. |
Unfortunately, because all 19 of these weapons are required for the achievement, there is no easy option here. You'll have to do them all. Don't forget that you have to get a kill with each weapon after unlocking them. Check to make sure you're working on the correct guns. If you keep this in mind, it shouldn't be too hard to do. It will just take quite a few hours of playtime. Either way, no matter which method you use, the achievement will unlock after your final kill:
This completes the In the Name of Tsar DLC.
