Guide for Battlefield 1 - Multiplayer: Apocalypse

APOCALYPSE

APOCALYPSE

The final DLC to Battlefield 1, Apocalypse features some of the bloodiest battles of the Great War, including locations such as Passchendaele, Caporetto, and River Somme. In addition to these haunting new maps, the new DLC also adds more weapons, guns, and gadgets, and even a new stationary weapon: the livens projector. Lastly, the Apocalypse DLC adds a new mechanic to the BF1 as well, in the form of Afflictions, perks that place negative traits onto a player. As with all DLC, this will be a much simpler completion with boosting, though the achievements are bit harder this time around.

How to Create and Join Gaming Sessions on TrueAchievements / Battlefield 1 Sessions

1. Firefighter

Description: Perform a melee kill on a Flametrooper Elite

There are a few requirements for this achievement that are worth noting. The first is that this achievement only works in multiplayer. So if you intend to boost it, you need at least two players. Secondly, the Flametrooper is an Elite Class, so you need to find a kit first. The best way to get a Flametrooper kit to spawn is to play Conquest and to play on Apocalypse DLC maps. Though other game modes and maps will work as well, it seems to go much faster by using DLC maps instead. For these maps, the kit locations are:

  • Caporetto: A kit can be found around the Isonzo Overlook, near Objective B
  • Passchendaele: A kit can be found inside the trench of Bellevue Line, on Objective B
  • River Somme: A kit can be found by the arched rail bridge (red carts) in between Objectives E and F

From here, you have two options. You can either camp the kit location and wait for someone to grab it. Or you can have a friend pick up the kit for you. Either way, you'll need to kill the Flametrooper whenever they pick up the kit. Note that it has to specifically be a melee kill as well. You can damage them with any weapon beforehand, so long as you finish with a melee weapon specifically. Both bayonets and horse lances work for this. Your best bet is to use either of those options, or do a quick backstab before the trooper notices you. Since the Flametrooper can literally light you on fire, there's no point in trying to melee him from the front, especially with their additional health.

And that's all there is to it. Once the Flametrooper is down (provided it was by a melee kill), the achievement will unlock. Once again, you have plenty of options for the weapon of choice, and any map counts:

2. Advanced Studies

Description: Perform 1 kill with the Livens Projector

The Livens Projector, as said above, is a new addition to BF1 that was added with the Apocalypse DLC. Due to this, it's a stationary weapon that works like a mortar, sending toxic fumes down from the air that damage and kill unprotected enemies. Because it is a mortar-style weapon, it cannot be equipped or aimed, but is instead available at certain locations on the map. For those who have yet to see a Livens Projector, it looks like a row of pipes, with a detonator near the flag objective that it's placed at. When fired, the gasses from the projector will spread across a neighboring objective for a short period of time. This gas is how you'll get your kill for the achievement. Other things to note about the projector are:

  • Each Livens Projector cannot be used indefinitely and is only available every few minutes
  • The Livens Projector will "light up" when ready for use, like a spotlight
  • Certain Livens Projectors are limited to certain teams (more on this below)
  • Livens Projectors that are not limited to a team can only be used by capturing that Objective

As said above, because it is a new addition to the game, the Livens Projector can only be found on Apocalypse DLC maps. Below is the full list of Livens Projectors in the game and where they are located:

  • Caporetto:
    • At the Austro-Hungarian spawn, fires at Objective A (Austro-Hungarian only)
    • At Objective A, fires at Objective B (Any team, but the Objective must be captured)
    • At Objective B, fires at Objective C (Any team, but the Objective must be captured)
    • At Objective C, fires at Objective D (Any team, but the Objective must be captured)
    • At Objective D, fires at Objective E (Any team, but the Objective must be captured)
  • Passchendaele:
    • At the German spawn, fires at Objective A (German Only)
  • River Somme:
    • At the British spawn, fires at Objective A (British only)

Note the quotations next to the locations. As said in the tips section, certain Livens Projectors are only available to certain teams. This applies for any locations that are at a specific spawn. So that means, for Caporetto, you need to be the Austro-Hungarians. For Passchendaele, you need to be the Germans. And for River Somme, you need to be the British. Remember that you can try and switch teams at any time during the match, provided the teams are even. For the remaining locations, you do not need to be on any specific team. You just need to capture and own that objective before its available to you.

As expected, Caporetto is your best bet on earning this achievement, since there are multiple Livens Projectors available for use and most are not team-locked. Once you are in a match with a Livens Projector available, approach the detonator and hold cn_X to fire off the rounds. The gas will swarm the other objective, and will hopefully kill at least one enemy. You only need a single kill for the achievement to pop, though the achievement is listed as buggy, so beware:

3. Flyswatter

Description: Destroy 5 airplanes while in the Behemoth Airship L30

I highly recommend that players find a way to boost this achievement or rent a private server. You'll need to start up a game of Air Assault on the map London Calling. Because this game mode has been dead for a very long time, the chances of players finding a server without boosting are slim to none.

The Airship L30 is a massive Zeppelin that actually plays the role of a Behemoth in other game modes, as the name suggests. In Air Assault, it's available as a spawn vehicle, and each time can have one on the field. This achievement requires players to get five kills in total with this Zeppelin, which is actually fairly easy, provided you can find a full match. Once you've spawned in and grabbed the L30 (there is one for each team, so if it's not available on your side, switch), pick a position to get kills from. Each seat has a weapon in place, so it should be easy to get started. Just remember that you need kills and not assists.

There is another way to collect kills, which involves enemies ramming into your L30 and exploding. However, the player in the Airship needs to be in the AA Gun (Anti-Air) for this to count. It might also be wise to fire off a few rounds into the enemy plane first, as some players have reported that the kill does not count otherwise. Your only other option, besides using Air Assault, is to play Conquest and hope to grab the Airship when you can.

Regardless of how you obtain the kills, once you have at least five (while using the L30), the achievement will pop. If you're sure you've collected all five kills and you can't get it to unlock, try comparing your achievements to a friend's on Xbox. Oddly enough, it has been reported to work more than once:

4. Modern Technology

Description: Perform 1 kill with the Broken Bottle

Yet another new addition to the DLC, the Broken Bottle is a unique melee weapon that can only be unlocked after getting kills with a different variant of it. It's a bit confusing to explain, but essentially, there are broken bottles spread across the Apocalypse DLC maps. These bottles have to be picked up to be used, and can only be used once to get a kill. To get the actual Broken Bottle melee weapon, you need to get five of these kills in total. So you'll need to collect these single-use bottles at least five times before you can get the achievement.

As said above, these broken bottles can only be found on DLC maps, which are listed below. In addition to the locations, I have also linked maps that show the bottle locations. Credit to this Reddit discussion for the links:

  • Caporetto - Map
    • In a trench line to the north-east of Objective A, on the ground and near a torch
    • At the base of a statue to the north of Objective B, at the bench
    • Near the Livens Projector at Objective B, on the wall
    • At the southern end of the bridge, east railing, near Objective C
    • At Objective D, right near the flag and the Livens Projector
    • Found in the last train car between Objective E and D
  • Passchendaele - Map
    • In the trenches north-east of Objective A, outside of the ruins of the church/mine
    • Outside the bunker in a trench near Objective B
    • Near a group of crates, underneath the covered structure by Objective C
    • Inside a destroyed pillbox, between Objectives D and E, to the west
    • Located in a trench to the east of Objective E
  • River Somme - Map
    • At Objective A, by the door of the barn
    • Inside the windmill at Objective B, bottom floor
    • At Objective C, in the house and on the floor, in the corner
    • At the destroyed sugar mill at Objective E, next to the machinery
    • In between C and F is a half-finished mine. The bottle is by the flag

You have a bit of leeway to get your melee kill, as the hit-box is pretty generous. It only takes one hit to kill an enemy. However, once you find and pick up a bottle, you cannot use any other weapons or your character will drop and shatter it. Each bottle only appears once per round. So once it's gone, it's gone. And you might find that other players are looking for the bottles too. So it might take more than a few tries to get your five melee kills.

Once you have all five kills, the actual Broken Bottle weapon will unlock. From here, all you need to do is equip it to your soldier, and then get one last melee kill. After that, the achievement will pop, and you'll forever have the bottle in the future:

5. Weapons of the Apocalypse

Description: Perform a kill with all "Apocalypse" weapon variants

If you have completed all the DLC before this, you'll already know how to earn this achievement. It has the same requirements and methods, just with different weapons. So feel free to skip the following information. I will once again provide both a boosting method and a full method.

Note that this achievement has a few more weapons than the first expansion than the previous one, and will therefore take much more time to complete. There are only 10 in total this time. And, once again, variants are required for the achievement. Note that these weapons are available via the DLC weapon assignments. This means that you technically need to unlock them first in order to equip and use them. However, you can bypass this by playing with friends who have already unlocked the weapons themselves, as said previously. Below is the list of weapons needed for the achievement:

  • Assault
    • RSC SMG Factory
    • RSC SMG Optical
  • Medic
    • Howell Automatic Factory
    • Howell Automatic Sniper
  • Support
    • IMG 08/18 Low Weight
    • IMG 08/18 Suppressive
  • Scout
    • Ross Mk III Marksman
    • M1917 Enfield Infantry
  • Sidearms
    • Revolver Mk VI
  • Melee Weapons
    • Broken Bottle

To complete all of the weapon assignments is to put quite a bit of playtime into the game. However, if you can find a friend, or get into a boosting session, this achievement becomes much more simple. You'll be shaving quite a bit of time off of your completion if you do so (we're talking at least a few hours), so I highly recommend taking advantage of the sessions that TA offers. As with before, we'll start with the boosting method first.

Boosting Method

As said above, the boosting method is the shortest method you can use to unlock this achievement. It requires a minimum of two players, with at least one player having access to all of the weapons needed for the achievement. Obviously, if one person only has a few of the weapons, you can find another person to get the others from. But it's definitely faster if you can get them all from one person. If more than one person needs the achievement, feel free to add them into the rotation. After you have a squad ready, you'll need to find a match. There are two options here.

The first is to go into a public game. This can be a pain because you'll be dealing with both enemies and allies all around the map. However, it's still doable. If you intend to boost this in a public match, I recommend using a large game-mode that allows you to spawn on specific objectives. Conquest is a good choice for this.

The second option is to create a private match. This requires you to rent a server, or have someone else in the session rent one. They aren't too expensive for a day, especially if you're splitting the cost with other session members, but it still requires you to cough up real cash. The up-side is that you won't be dealing with any other players, and you can change the game rules as needed. See the Beginner's Guide if you need to know more, or if you need to know how to rent the server.

Once you're in a match, you'll need to follow a specific process in order to pick up each weapon. Make sure that the player who has the weapons actually has them set in their loadouts, just to make it easier:

  • Have each player spawn at the same objective that's farthest from battle (Point A or Point F)
    • If in a private match, make sure the player with the weapons is on the opposite team before spawning
    • Because there are no other enemies in a private match, the spawn location does not matter
  • The player who has the weapons needs to either redeploy or die to drop their weapon.
  • After the player dies, have one of the players that needs the achievement pick up the weapon to get a kill
    • If in public, it might take a few tries. If they don't make it, just do the process again for the gun
    • If in private, you can just have your friend with the weapons respawn and then kill them
  • After the kill, return to the spawn and have the other player spawn with one of the other four guns
  • Repeat the steps to get kills until the players have gotten a kill with all of the weapons needed

The players that get all five weapon kills will unlock the achievement (the achievement tracker works, but is said to be buggy at times). As said above, the more players that need the achievement, the more times the player with the weapons will need to respawn. But the process works with as many players as you need. This boosting method is the same method that you will use for all of the weapon assignment achievements as well. So remember it if you plan to do other DLC.

Full Method

Though significantly longer than boosting, the full method for unlocking all the weapons is still very doable. Each weapon has two requirements to complete. The first objective has to be completed before moving on to the second. You can also only complete one weapon assignment at a time. So if you’re onto the second requirement for two different weapons, there’s no point in going for both at once. Below is a chart that lists each weapon and its requirements, as well as some tips on how to go about completing them.

WEAPON

CLASSREQUIREMENT #1REQUIREMENT #2METHOD

RSC SMG Factory

AssaultPerform 50 kills as an Assault N/AThis requirement is incredibly easy and shouldn't require any explanation at this point.
RSC SMG Optical

Assault

Perform 50 kills with the RSC SMG FactoryIn a round, perform 300 Vehicle Damage using explosivesThere are plenty of ways to damage vehicles, but all in one round is tricky, so play Operations for the best result.
Howell Automatic Factory Medic Perform 50 kills as a MedicN/AYet another incredibly easy requirement that requires no explanation.
Howell Automatic SniperMedicPerform 50 kills with the Howell Automatic Factory In a round, perform 600 points of Healing As with the Assault weapon, try playing Operations so that you have plenty of time to get heals.
IMG 10/18 Low Weight SupportPerform 50 kills as a Support N/AA third requirement that is self-explanatory and needs no explanation.
IMG 10/18 Suppressive Support Perform 50 kills with the IMG 08/18 Low Weight In a round, perform 100 ResuppliesThe same tips apply yet again. Play Operations so there's plenty of time for resupplies.
Ross Mk III Marksman ScoutPerform 50 kills as a Scout N/AThe last of the easy requirements. Once again, self-explanatory. Just get your kills.
M1917 Enfield Infantry ScoutPerform 50 kills with the Ross MkIII Marksman Accumulate 2,500 meters of headshots using Single-Action Rifles The second objective sounds hard, but it actually just requires you to get headshots with single-action rifles. The father the headshot, the more progress you make.
Revolver Mk VI

Sidearm

Kill 25 different enemies using Revolvers N/AThere's one small catch with this achievement, and it's that you have to kill 25 different enemies. It can't be the same person. Otherwise, it's simple enough.
Broken Bottle Melee WeaponDisplay a reckless disregard for the finer things in life N/AIf you have completed the "Modern Technology" then you have this weapon already. If not, see above.

As with before, all 10 of these weapons are required for the achievement, so there is no easy option here. You'll have to do them all. That being said, this is one of the easiest DLC achievements to obtain. Don't forget that you have to get a kill with each weapon after unlocking them. Check to make sure you're working on the correct guns. If you keep this in mind, it shouldn't be too hard to do. It will just take quite a few hours of playtime. Either way, no matter which method you use, the achievement will unlock after your final kill:

This completes the Apocalypse DLC.
