Gonzmart hopes to resurrect Goody Goody

Tampa restaurateur Richard Gonzmart has purchased the rights and other pieces of the former Goody Goody diner.

Tampa, Florida -- For many who grew up in the Tampa Bay area, saying the words Goody Goody conjures up wonderful childhood (and into adulthood) memories. Goody Goody was "THE" burger joint in town and known for its wonderful "special sauce." When you ordered a burger, you got it "POX"—with pickles, onions, special sauce.

You could pull up in your car and get waited on right there in the front or back seat. Or, you could go inside and sit at one of the old "classroom-style" seats. As a kid, it was like having your own table all to yourself.

One person who remembers going there are a child is hugely successful restaurateur Richard Gonzmart. His family owns the Columbia Restaurant and recently opened Ulele on the Hillsborough River in Tampa.

Gonzmart said he bought the naming rights, pie recipes and of course, the recipe for the special sauce. He even got the old Goody Goody sign. And Gonzmart looks forward to bringing the iconic restaurant back to life. He hopes to have his newest adventure up and running by 2015, hopefully not too far from its old location on Florida Avenue, near I 2-75.
