Genshin Impact Switch Version Not "Cancelled", Rumor Debunked

A new rumor claiming that the release of Genshin Impact on Nintendo Switch has been cancelled is making the rounds in the Japanese fan community, and it’s only a matter of time until the rumor starts spreading in the English fandom as well. Thing is, that rumor was already debunked.

Genshin Impact was first announced on June 9, 2019, for Mobile and PC. Later on, a Nintendo Switch version got announced on January 14, 2020. That was months before the game’s release on September 28, 2020. And even before the announcement of a PlayStation release. However, Shanghai-based developer HoYoverse, previously miHoYo, has yet to announce a release date and additional details on that Switch Version. Many fans are still waiting for this release to happen someday, and the elusive release is the center of many rumors.

How the “Genshin Impact Got Its Switch Version Cancelled” Rumor Started

The rumor started spreading on April 18, 2022, with the release of the new Ayaka and Ayato lore video. Early on, when the video was first released, the YouTube description did not include the usual “Planned release: Nintendo Switch” and Nintendo trademark. These are usually included in all official videos of the official Japanese Genshin Impact YouTube channel.

Several Japanese fans noticed the Switch release was omitted, and the rumor started spreading in the Genshin Japanese community on Twitter and anonymous message boards.

Nintendo Switch Trademark and Release Added Back in by HoYoverse

However, it turned out that all of this was a simple mistake by HoYoverse, as the Nintendo Switch mention was edited into the video description a few hours later. Possibly because HoYoverse noticed the rumor. Furthermore, the new videos released on April 19 all properly include the “Planned release: Nintendo Switch” and Nintendo trademark. A simple typo created quite the scare in fans still waiting for a Switch version.

Many Japanese fans have yet to notice that the description was edited and are still discussing whether this could mean the Switch version was cancelled. Understandable considering HoYoverse has been completely silent and did not answer our questions on the matter either. The last time the Switch version was officially brought up was in July 2021.

Do you think HoYoverse will eventually cancel the Switch version of Genshin Impact, or do you still believe it’ll happen? Let me know in the comments!
