For Women Insecure About Their 'Big' Noses, a New Campaign Takes on the Stigma
Tale as old as time: You’re snapping a group picture with your friends, and everyone’s jostling to give the camera their "best" angle. It’s no crime, but for women self-conscious about their nose, any shot other than something straight-on can spell dread. But a new social media campaign called #SideProfileSelfie is trying to alleviate that pressure by spotlighting large noses in an effort to ease the stigma.
"I’ve hated my nose for ages because I’ve always compared it to white beauty standards and the Hollywood look," freelance journalist Rahdika Sanghani, who created the hashtag, tells Glamour. "But in recent years I’ve started to ditch that idea and actually love my nose for what it is. It’s been so freeing and wonderful that now I really want to inspire other women to get to a similar place."

Women all over the world responded by tweeting pictures of themselves using the hashtag and embracing their "big noses." Many of the women expressed that they too have struggled with confidence and have been made to feel less-than because of their appearance. "Always felt conscious about my nose, but thanks to #sideprofileselfie it’s made love who I am. Keep being you and don’t give in to the beauty ideals," said one woman who joined in the campaign. "I’ve never ever put a photo online of my side profile before because its made me self-conscious every day for as long as I can remember. But you know what, BIG NOSES ARE OK, although tweeting this is scary," said another.
