Davido calls Burna Boy ‘new cat’ in music industry, stirs reactions
Afrobeat sensation, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has shared his thoughts on the rise of new talents in the Nigerian music industry.
In a recent interview, Davido acknowledged the global recognition and growth of Afrobeats but highlighted that he and Ayo “Wizkid” Balogun were among the artists who achieved success early on.
Discussing further, he mentioned Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Asake, and Mayorkun as part of the “new cats” in the industry, emphasizing their talent and impact.

Davido also took the opportunity to appreciate the contributions of Mayorkun and Asake, whom he featured in his latest album, ‘Timeless.’
“Everybody knows that I was one of the first, me and Wizkid to blow up. It feels good also seeing that the news cats coming up; like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Rema, Asake, and Mayorkun,” he said.
However, Davido’s choice of words referring to them as “new cats” has fueled discussions among fans and music enthusiasts.
While some appreciate Davido’s recognition of colleagues, others have interpreted the term as demeaning.
