Club Captain Cost | Golf Monthly

Having just completed my year as Captain I would say there's no simple answer to this. Yes, it certainly costs you a few quid but how much will depend on the type of club, the level of involvement with other local clubs in terms of social events etc. I liken it to taking a holiday.... you can do it for minimum cost with cheap flights to Benidorm or you can push the boat out with a round the world cruise. Most people do something in between. There can sometimes an element of showing off so don't believe everything you get told, I've seen Captains inflate what they really spent to look "better" etc. Don't see the point personally as it can put off some good people from even considering it.

The main costs are Captain's day, guests at all the dine-ins (I had 6-8 on average but you could have 20) and most of all an awful lot of time. Total cost for me was around £2500 and the club contributed a bar tab for entertaining guests on top of this of around £1800 as well as help with taxi's. All in all a super year, have made lifelong friends from the other clubs not to mention the chance to raise a decent amount for some very special charities. Worth every penny.
