Cillian Murphy Had Robert Downey Jr. Wheezing After He Made 1 ‘Oppenheimer’ Compliment Sound Like a Cry For Help

Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. enthralled the audiences with their performances as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Oppenheimer. Besides having a worldwide collection of $960.7 million, the movie also won five Golden Globe Awards, seven BAFTAs, three SAG Awards, and 13 nominations at the 96th Academy Awards.

While working on the movie together, the movie’s cast developed a strong bond. So much so that they often made jokes at the expense of each other during the promotional interviews. During one such interview, Downey Jr. began wheezing when Murphy read a fan’s compliment.

Besides enjoying watching Oppenheimer, the audience also got the chance to witness their favorite movie stars doing numerous interviews to promote the movie. In one such interview for PEOPLE magazine, the cast read fans’ tweets complimenting the movie.

Unlike some of his co-stars, the movie’s lead star Cillian Murphy is not on social media so his unfamiliarity with internet terms is understandable. This unawareness of his was palpable during one of his interviews, in which his being unable to read a fan’s compliment having emojis was almost too funny for Robert Downey Jr. to keep from laughing.

During the segment ”Oppenheimer’ Cast Reacts to Your Tweets’ of the interview for PEOPLE magazine, Cillian Murphy read a fan’s post on X which was as follows:

Vision Pro is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 gotta watch Oppenheimer on this baby 😩

After struggling a bit with reading the post and some help from Emily Blunt, Murphy read it as:

“Oh gosh, this is emoji talk. [Blunt helps him.] Vision Pro is fire fire fire fire gotta watch Oppenheimer on this baby.”

Murphy neither likes clicking pictures with fans nor has social media. Being on social media is not a need per se, but it certainly helps people understand certain things on social media. So, it is good to see that instead of criticizing his lack of knowledge of internet terms, fans just took it in good stride and enjoyed watching the interview.
