Avondale Meadows YMCA searched, cleared after bomb threat

Police investigated a bomb threat at an Indianapolis YMCA Monday night.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Police investigated a bomb threat at an Indianapolis YMCA Monday night.

The threat was received around 8 p.m. at the Avondale Meadows YMCA at 3908 Meadows Drive in Indianapolis.

Police say the threat was directed at the YMCA, but specifics were not released.

While police responded to the threat, an employee saw what they believed to be a suspicious item. That item was inspected and found not to be a threat.

Officers continued to search the remainder of the building before determining the scene to be clear.

The YMCA issued the following statement Monday night:

"The Avondale Meadows YMCA received a bomb threat around 8 p.m. tonight. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called and the building evacuated. Authorities investigated the building and gave an all clear, so the Y will reopen at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. The safety and well-being of our members, guests and staff is our top priority."
