Andreas Seidl stands up for Daniel Ricciardo: “He still doesn’t feel 100 per cent with the car”

Daniel Ricciardo has been going through a rough patch which has been a cause of concern for Andreas Seidl and Zak Brown in their quest to challenge Mercedes for that 3rd place. The Australian has been off the pace for the best part of this season as he has been able to score points in only of the seven races to go with his points finish in the sprint at Imola.

This has left Ricciardo 37 points behind his team mate, Lando Norris, and we are not halfway through this season. While Lando has been racking up the points, it’s been a combination of some hard luck and average driving for Ricciardo. Zak Brown signed the ‘honey badger’ to replicate the performances from Red Bull days but, unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do so this season despite a decent last season.

We saw glimpses of what he can do last season, with that famous win at Monza which helped McLaren secure a 1-2 after a really long time. That was expected to be the launch pad for him to come into his element in the second season for the British manufacturers. But the performances have not been up to the mark and this has raised concerns over his future at McLaren.

Amidst criticism flying from all ends, Andreas Seidl has come out to defend Daniel Ricciardo. In one of his interviews, he said, “In general, Daniel says it himself, he still doesn’t feel 100 per cent with the car, especially when it’s about pushing it to the absolute limit in qualifying.”

“He’s up against a very strong teammate as well, with Lando, and if you put both things together, that’s the gap we are sometimes seeing.”

“All we can do, together with Daniel, with a commitment on both sides, is to simply keep working hard in order to find these last percentages,” as reported by racingnews365.

Andreas Seidl believes that Daniel Ricciardo has still hasn’t been able to come to grips with this new machinery. While Seidl might have defended the Australian, we all know that he doesn’t have a lot of time if he wants to keep his seat at McLaren.
