8 Shocking Revelations From Kim Richards' Dr. Phil Interview
At one point, when Richards had stormed out of the interview, cameras caught audio of her talking to her children. "You haven't been sober," her son, Chad, said to her. Kim responded: "Yeah, but Chad, I'm not drinking every day."
"I live with you," Chad fired back. "I'm not saying you're drinking, but you're taking pills. You do this every once in a while, you smoke pot." Richards then confirmed, repeating: "Every once in a while."
4. Her problem with addiction dates back to when her mother became sick with cancer in 1998.
Richards, who cared for her mother while she was ill, starting "drinking at night, alone." "It was hard to watch her struggle," she told Dr. Phil. After her mother passed away in 2002, her drinking worsened. "I didn't have anyone to communicate with, and I realized I became a person I didn't like anymore," she said. "I couldn't stand the sight of myself...that was the first time I personally knew that I needed help and I wanted help."
5. She's contemplated suicide.
"I've said it," Richards admitted to Dr. Phil. "I don't know that I've ever meant it. I don't think I could ever have left my kids."
6. Her children don't approve of her friendship with fellow RHOBH star Brandi Glanville.
When Dr. Phil brings up Glanville, Richards' son Chad jumps in: "Toxic..you gotta be hanging around people who are supporting your sobriety." But Richards defended her, saying that Glanville "never drank in front of me unless we're at work."
7. She's heard from her sister, Kyle.
"She actually texted me after my arrest, for the first time in five months," Richards said to Dr. Phil. "She asked me if I was OK. I haven't spoken to her, but I'm sure some people are having a field day with this, and I don't really care."
8. She refused Dr. Phil's rehab offer.
Dr. Phil offered Richards a 60-day rehab program close to her home in California, which her children all urged her to accept. But the offer only caused Richards to shut down, saying, "Is this an intervention? It's starting to feel like one. I don't want to do this anymore," before exiting the interview. "You can forget this whole thing," she yelled to producers as she walked off. "F—k him. I'm leaving."
Dr. Phil said that, a day later, he received a call from Richards accepting his offer—but then she "went back and forth again with demands." People confirmed on Sunday that she had checked herself into a rehab program.
