20th Indy Backpack Attack campaign underway
Monday was the annual kickoff for the Indy Backpack Attack.
INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Schools may be out for summer break, but it's never too early to get school supplies ready for the next year.
Monday was the annual kickoff for the Indy Backpack Attack.
Its the 20th year for the school supply drive. In Indianapolis, 87 percent of IPS families say they need help buying basic school supplies. Around 100,000 students are affected by poverty.
Teachers often spend up to $1,200 of their own money to help their students.
From now through July 19 businesses across the area will collect school supplies to help these kids and families.
"You can go to our website and find the list of items we need, but then you can also donate to Indiana Members Credit Union across the city," Backpack Attack coordinator Tiffany Dial said.
Various restaurants are also joining the campaign. Each Tuesday for the next month, dining at specific local restaurants will add to donations to Backpack Attack.
