12 Bridesmaid Hair Ideas You'll Actually Love

Wedding season is in full swing (TBH, when is it not?), and on top of choosing the perfect dress and makeup look, finding the right bridesmaid hair ranks high on the to-do list. As part of the wedding party, there's even more pressure to choose the right hairstyle for the special day. Will you go for some sexy texture or a bombshell blowout? We have a few ideas that will help you decide.

Not only will you want your style to pair well with the rest of your look and read as cohesive with the other bridesmaids, but you're going to want a style that lasts all day and night. Your duties will inevitably include lots of picture taking, some dancing, and maybe even some weather snafus, so there's a lot to think about.

To help you find your perfect bridesmaid hair, we spoke to top hairstylists and rounded up some screenshot-worthy inspo for you.

Consider your own style and the vibe of the wedding.

First things first, “make sure to choose a style different from the bride's,” says Fekkai SoHo stylist Lisa Epperson. Usually a bride's wedding day hair is a bit more involved, but it's smart to play it safe and run it by her first. Once you know how she's wearing her hair, you'll likely already have some of your options narrowed, which can be a big help! “Choose a hairstyle that you’ll feel comfortable in throughout the wedding, also keeping in mind the weather and location,” she adds.

Xavier Velasquez, a hairstylist at Jenna Perry Hair Studio in NYC and a Virtue Labs ambassador, says that it's also important to keep the wedding itself in mind. What's the vibe? Is it more boho or classic? That can be the deciding factor between, say, a sleek chignon or some beachy waves. He says that his personal preference is “timeless and chic,” which can fit in at pretty much anyone's nuptials.

Factor in the length of your hair.

Some bridesmaid hair that will work for superlong lengths won't be possible on shorter hair and vice versa. “For a bridesmaid with long hair, pulling it all back can be beautiful, so you’re not fussing with it all night,” says Velasquez. But he's also a fan of long, flowing waves. Epperson agrees and says that a bouncy blowout with some bends is the way to go. On short hair, Velasquez likes a “voluminous blowout or sleek deep side part.”

Add an accessory.

A wedding is the perfect event for adding something extra to your look, and with hair accessories having a major moment, now is the time to get on board. In particular, Velasquez suggests playing with hair accessories on textured hair. Of course, anyone can rock a cool clip, pin, or headband, though. Jennifer Behr makes some of our favorites. Its Zinnia Bobby Pin Set would be super easy to incorporate to most looks and there are a bunch of other designs to choose from too.

Bring inspo pics.

Every wedding is different, but in most cases, the bride will plan for her wedding party to get ready together. Whether you have someone doing your hair or not depends on the situation, but in any case, it can be helpful to have some looks on hand as a reference. “I always recommend clients to come with inspiration!” says Epperson. “Share a few different options with your stylist, it will help guide them to create a unique look for you.” Your stylist will also be able to tell you whether or not that style works for your hair length, texture, etc.
